Should be an interesting race for comptroller.

"Kristin Davis, the New York madam Spitzer patronized, told the New York Daily News, "I spent five months at Riker's Island from which I returned penniless, homeless, and forced to take sex offender classes for five months with pedophiles and perverts while he returned to his wife in his Fifth Avenue high rise without ever being fingerprinted, mug shot, remanded or charged with a crime under the very law he signed." Davis is also running for NYC comptroller."

Davis has taken repeated shots at Spitzer in the media and has also spoken about what kind of client he was to her former escorts.

The bottom line is that in terms of qualifications for the job, Spitzer is head and shoulders above all the candidates including Davis. Spitzer, if you can forget the Empire Club scandal, was an excellent and effective Attorney General and showed signs of strong leadership during his short tenure as Governor of New York.

Agreed.

Spitzer not only deserves another shot, he has many qualities (not the least of which is a great taste in SPs...I'd do Kristin in a minute)... and likely deserves to win.

****

Frankly, one of the things I find most touching about Spitzer, is the real conflict that he (and many hobbyists) have about the SP world.

He had a strong public policy stance against prostitution, but nevertheless partook in the hobby.

Although the subject does not come up often on the boards, I'd bet many hobbyists fell the exact same way.

I agree - the hypocrisy is rampant and I really feel for the guys that get caught. Most high profile clients have dozens of associates who are thinking, "thank God it was him that got caught and not me."

Everybody that can do it, does it. Every profession - I made a list of as many professions of my clients that I could remember a couple of years ago, and another board member commented that I could populate an entire village with that list - because everyone, from doctors, to lawyers, to pilots, to tradespeople, to IT guys, to bank owners, to politicians, to plumbers - sees escorts!!

One way or another, the man is a liar.

And all the other people running for public office in New York are wonderfully honest God-fearing people? Are you kidding us? Do you know Anthony Weiner is leading in the polls for Mayor? He is an honest guy?

Actually Spitzer did have the reputation of being effective in getting done what he said he would do as a politician. Do politicians have some other job we don't know about besides that? Who cares whether stuff he did in his personal life was different than his policies, so long as he delivered on the policies he promised when running for office? Should voters care about what he does outside the lines of his office?

Spitzer at age 54 must have stopped seeing sps and probably jerks off daily in front of a mirror like Geraldo Rivera.
like Bill Clinton he has put all his energies back into getting political power.
Clinton because of his health and age went from being a 3 ball tomcat to being castrated, but he still makes million$s giving speeches.

Regarding Geraldo Rivera he is something of an icon in the greater New York City area and it should be noted that it was his investigative journalism that led to Elvis Presley's cause of death being correctly reported, and to the Tennessee authorities pulling the license on the Doctor who overprescribed meds to Elvis. All that being said, he has always been a somewhat egotistical and opinionated guy who has maintained his status as a celebrity journalist for many years. I think he is actually a pretty good interviewer, especially if he has some personal interest in the subject matter of the interview. He is like a dog going for the bone. He is a trained lawyer and practice law for some years before becoming a popular TV news journalist in the NYC area specializing in investigative type reporting. I am surprised he was never offered to be on 60 Minutes as he could have done well on that show IMHO.

He was a college lacrosse goalie at the University of Arizona so he has the jock mentality of loving his body even at age 70. One wonders if that photo was followed by a quick masturbation to completion while watching his reflection in the mirror.

Split-zer!

Eliot's wife is finally done with him. This is what the married hobbyist signs up for, now the only question is how much Eliot gets raked for in the divorce. My bet is he gets raked in a big way, and she will be getting money he could have used on escorts:

Women are turned on by men with money, no matter what the men look like and no matter what their past is. Spritzer will be able find a reasonably attractive woman who is 10-20 years younger than him and he will eventually marry that woman. In the meantime, if he thinks he can get away with it, he may use hookers. But his main focus will be to find a new wife. A man with his ego is not content to just satisfy his needs with paid sex. He needs arm candy to satisfy his ego.

Actually Silda Spitzer was not a bad looking woman and Spitzer could probably upgrade to a younger, even more attractive wife, and that is probably exactly what he is thinking. Maybe when Weiner's wife divorces him, which will come when the mayoral candidacy of Weiner ends, she will hook up with Spitzer.

I agree with the rest of your post, but it should be noted (1) Spitzer was born into a very wealthy family and he carries that wealth, (2) he was a very good Attorney General and an efective Governor, and if you have listened to him on CNN, he knows the issues on everything, agree with him or not; (3) he has a massive ego which will permit him to pay out a lot in divorce and look to take on another wife who enjoys the spotlight and can make him look good.

I tend to agree with CR on all points. I would also add I think Spitzer, on qualifications and talent alone, is head and shoulders above everyone he is running against. He is the most talented and politically experienced person in NYC who is not politically employed at the moment. He is a very, very, very intelligent and talented guy who has a lot of baggage he carries with him.

CR,

You are way too focused on the hypocrisy issue. Tell me of one politician whom you could not criticize as hypocritical. We happen to know more about Spitzer's personal life is the only difference. The man is extremely intelligent about political matters and a good politician advocates positions at odds with his personal views, just like attorneys do the same in court every day. Do you think the attorney who defended the guy in Cleveland approves of rape?

The politician's job is to advocate for the welfare of all his constituents, not for his own personal welfare, just like the attorney's job is to advocate his client's positions, not his own personal views. In this regard Spitzer did the job he was supposed to do and which the voters in New York elected him to do.

Patron is correct that Spitzer's regular whom he took on Caribbean trips has said she looked forward to the bookings. She knew who Spitzer was, unlike the dippy Ashley Dupree. She said that she was engrossed by talking politics with him because he was so smart and knowledgeable. Sort of like the student with a crush on the professor.

he is also an arrogant, self-serving, smug, condescending, pompous, hypocritical, egotistical pol.

The adjectives you used to describe Spitzer can be applied to most successful politicians and in that sense it is your post that is somewhat hypocritical. Sanford from South Carolina is another guy for whom we can argue many of the same things. Not to mention many, many others. Spitzer is probably by far the most talented politician that was scandalized in US political history, and it was all over banging HDH, adult, escorts. Something that many very successful people do every day, but go on in their lives and jobs with no scandals hanging over their heads. That is the hypocrisy.

I think the voters in New York City understand that. I think right now Weiner has bigger problems than Spitzer does. He is another guy to whom you can apply all these adjectives. We also should not leave out the various scandalized Republican politicians like Foley and Craig and the Democrat McGreevey, who were getting their dicks sucked by young boys or trying to. Spitzer did not commit any crime. He used his own personal monies for his escorting activities, and this showed that he understood his private life is his private life.

Here is the top 20 Republican sex scandals in the past 20 years, I would rate Spitzer towards the bottom of this list, if he was a Republican, on the hypocrisy meter:

http://www.alternet.org/story/14093...op_sex_scandals_of_the_past_20_years?page=0,1

Regarding Craig:

"This scandal had everything: failed attempts at sex in the seediest location imaginable; fumbling mishaps with law-enforcement agents; and one of the all-time greatest coverup lies told by any politician. Admit it: When you heard that Craig had been arrested for allegedly playing footsy with a cop in an airport bathroom stall, you heard a muted trumpet in your head going, "Waaah, waaaah, waaaaaaaaaaaaah!" Craig's subsequent denial of the charges was classic as well, as he said he only rubbed the cop's foot for five minutes because he employed a "wide stance" while sitting on the toilet."

Spitzer made no ridiculous public denials. He resigned almost immediately and even cooperated with the filmmakers of "Client #9", a documentary on the scandal. The US attorney's office found no prosecutable criminal conduct. It's a lock he would have been prosecuted if tax dollars had been used in any way on his hobbying adventures. It also should be noted that Spitzer was being investigated for tax evasion which is why the Feds caught him in the 1st place. They also found nothing on that complaint either, which likely came from one of the many dirty scoundrels Spitzer brought down.

Boys,

I have to agree with Captain Renault. For us hobbyists the hypocrisy is a small matter since many of us are hiding what we do from wives, girlfriends, employers, etc. The difference between us and Spitzer is he promoted a deception for career advancement and profit. Spitzer's case isn't about little personal lies that affect him and his family. It's about promoting a position that helped get him a lot of funding to get elected, make very profitable connections, and great personal enrichment. To say it's just hypocrisy is short-sighted. He sold a fraud on something he obviously doesn't believe in for power and money. "Governor Spitzer made his rise to victory in New York City politics promising "ethics and integrity to be the hallmarks of [his] administration." He had prosecuted several prostitution rings in his career, and his connection with a prostitution ring was felt as a betrayal by some women's rights and anti-human trafficking groups that had previously worked with him."

Hypocrisy EB? Try liar, cheat, fraud, betrayer, exploiter.

Which, unless there is no law against prostitution, was political favoritism. Governor Spitzer, referred to as "Client–9" in an affidavit filed in US Federal Court,[2] arranged to meet at the Mayflower Hotel in Washington on February 13, 2008 with a prostitute named "Kristen" — an "American, petite, very pretty brunette, 5 feet 5 inches and 105 pounds" (165 cm, 47 kg). "Kristen" was later identified as the 22-year-old Ashley Dupré.[3][4] She intended to travel from New York City for the planned tryst and Spitzer agreed in advance that he "would be paying for everything — train tickets, cab fare from the hotel and back, mini-bar or room service, travel time and hotel".[5] After the assignation on February 13, 2008, Spitzer paid her $4,300 in cash.[6] The payment included $1,100 as a deposit with the agency toward future services.

So payment was received, including for "future services", having already had 7 meetings for $15,000 and up to $80,000 for several years, yet the madam has to spend time on Ryker's...and Spitzer...what? Resigned?

Merlot, you hit the nail on the head. The powerful wealthy in NYC get away with all sorts of shit. Their high-priced lawyers are buddies with the judges they are appearing before. Most of the time the judges worked at the same law firms. It's an elite club. But hey, Spitzer is looking like a real player next to that arrogant nasty little Weiner.

Capt and Merlot I am glad you're bringing this up. I think we will see the feminists in North America try to push for the Nordic model in place here as well. So far the Libertarians are the only ones that have said it is not governments business to regulate the worlds’ oldest profession.

Spitzer’s hypocrisy is unforgivable. This whore will do anything to get elected. Give someone else a chance. Hitler and Stain were very talented too.
