Did anyone catch the article in todays (Saturday) Journal? Front page and 2 pages inside talking about fs clubs. Basically it was about what goes on in the clubs and how the police turn a blind eye to it. Tomorrow it will be about how the internet is very much aware of all this  I have a feeling that the boards are going to be very public knowledge tomorrow, much more so than they are now. Do you think that this will lead to some crackdowns by LE just to make a big show of things? It may not be the best time to go to a fs club in the upcoming weeks. I wouldn't be surprised if the board sets a visitor record in the next few days if it is mentioned by name in the article tomorrow.

I also read the article. I am a regular at the Gent.Things shouldn't be very bad. As you read LE was very well aware but has much more important things to do than catch a few horny men having fun with money-addicted women. As long as no minors and drugs are involved it is very likely they will continue to look the other way unless a few radio/TV guys step on the thing and raise the public pressure and push LE to act.

Yeah, I think I agree with you. Actually what bothers me most is that the board's address may be in tomorrow's paper which may lead to all kinds of little problems, not major ones. This board itself could be used as a basis for any number of articles...stripclubs, outcalls, incalls, massage...you name it. All the info is here for the enterprising reporter who wants to make a name for themself. I guess that since I've been here, I've grown to appreciate the community we have. Even though we have our disagreements and arguements, we always seem to come back together and I hope that we don't get invaded by outsiders who should just let us enjoy our various "hobbies" in peace.

MERB is public knowledge already

Techman, thanks for noticing that article in Le Journal de Montréal (my favorite Montreal paper, thanks to its excellent coverage of the sex business :D ).

However, this is definitely not the first time that MERB has made the news. Last November there was a series of articles in La Presse about "Montreal at Night." Several articles covered the sex business and one short article specifically focused on MERB. I translated it and posted it in the thread, Montreal at Night

However, while doing one of my periodic cleanups of my posts I deleted the translation.

But since the topic has come up again, I`ll repost the translation in that thread.

Enterprising reporter is somewhat of an oxymoron -
before such boards a reporter could have written a
similar article using JDM or Mirror classifieds.MERB
should expect a call from JDM classified sales to
advertise the site.

Almost thirty years ago there was a clean-up of
Montreal Massage Parlours visit:

www.geocities.com/wiseguywally

scroll down the middle of the home page to
INDEPENDENT CRIMINALS,left click,scroll down
to Richard "Ziggy" Wiseman,left click.

The site does not support heavy traffic well
- may require a few visits, but is worth the
effort.

Followed by the usual media stories, predictions
of industry demise,etc.Wrong.

By the way - operators today are not
significantly smarter.

Eastender,

I visited the site. I think you are paraphrasing me. How do you think you gain something ( political or carrer wise) if the public pressure is not behind it? It is rather expensive to bust FS clubs because establishing a rock solid proof is tough work. No complaints, object of the "crime" is hard to seize .... at least for LE :p , very private nature of the act, no witnesses(ever wondered why girls cannot bring two guys ?), girls are actually paid to frisk the customers therefore no body packs ;)

As I mentionned in another post just be carefull and things will be OK

I don't know about you guys, but I would not be caught dead in one of those clubs. Not for a few months anyways. People who did not know about these places will sure 'stir things up' alot. Some will be glad to find these places and others will be GLAD to complain about them! As it was already mentioned here, as soon as people start complaining LE has to respond and I would not want to be in one of those clubs when they do. Hey, more power to Outcalls !!! :D

As for MERB being mensioned in Le Journal de Montreal this morning, it only means we should be extra careful in what we say. Not mention names and places we like to go to.

Years ago(1950's/1960's) a Montreal police officer mediatized
his raids and smashing of pinball machines, thereby creating a
niche in the department and a public profile that resulted in a
significant political career as mayor of a South Shore
municipality after leaving the Montreal force. At no time was
there significant public pressure against pinball machines.
But it was good PR for the force and pictures of a police
officer smashing pinball machines usually found their way
onto the first few pages of the Montreal newspapers.

Usually LE builds a case that allows them to go after the
liquor license of the establishment or infringements of the
municipal zoning regulations.BTW this is also an explanation
why donut shops do not have a liquor license LOL.

FS Club Busts Are Coming

Hey guys,

I just heard from a very reliable, independent source that major busts are going to be going down on the off Island FS clubs as a result of this article. The provincial police have been utterly humiliated by this article which was translated to me from French to English by my source. If you go to an FS club off Island in the next few weeks you have shit for brains. Pay close attention to this post and to Oliver's: LAY LOW DUDES for at least the next month.

Both MERB and M/E/R/C mentioned in the article as well.

I'm not sure they gonna continue with agency and massage place.... I think theses clubs gonna slow down on FS for few week and month so police will hit a wall..... they cant make a trial to somebody with an article in journal and 1 by 1 they gonna start it again.... when policeman goes back to donuts.

If I would be a club owner thats what I would do..... if I want keep my license....

The funiest part of that its about that it's that this journal have 26 agency advertising today and 20 massage place.....! Journal de Montreal is happy to collect thoses agency ads.... btw regular ads (if you want sell ur car in example) in journal is about 8$ per line/day and for escort/massge its 19$...

One of the things I was told regarding part 2 of the article which appeared today was that there were specific references not only to the Boards, MERB and M/E/R/C, but also to "affluent tourists from Connecticut and New York" who "went back home very satisfied" after visiting these off Island FS clubs. This is based on the translation that was given to me by my source. If this translation is correct, the French writer of this article was obviously, and quite reprehenisibly, trying to stoke some anti-American and/or anti-Anglo sentiments among the Francophone readers of this newspaper. There is simply no reason to get into these kinds of things and if the message that is going to be sent to the readers is "rich Americans are coming up here and fucking your daughters", maybe this newspaper should also examine how much money the local economy derives from tourism across the Board.

I have to tell you that I was quite upset when this article was translated to me. I await a full posting and translation of both parts of the article, and maybe one of our bilingual members can help us out. Captain Renault, where are you when you are most needed?

Translation of the sunday newspaper article. I didn`t read the one from saturday. Note: I am not a translator for the writing but the essential contents is there.

An Tourist come to pay themself the "exotic" services from dancers

Tourist coming as far as United State and Ontario are coming to the "road of sex" to pay themself exotic services from dancers

As the Journal realize, a lot of them meet together on different internet sites to exchange their experience.
Foreigners customers discuss on these forums where they can exchange and discuss the current practice in these club on the south shore of Montreal.
On sites like https://merb.cc and m/e/r/c.ca, residents from New York or Connecticut write the story of their night.
A lot of tourists, who has tasted the experience, claim their desire to come back at the "Road of Sex".
Belong to the knoledge of the Journaaverage of 20 000 internet users per month surf on the site https://merb.cc.

In these site, customers make comments on dancers, giving quote to their body, their manners, their sex appeal, their expertise on a scale from 1 to 10..
Customers also explains the way to negociate price and the actual cost they really pay for service of dancers.

"She was to to a 10", says an Ontarian using the name Sex-analyst. "She asked me 180 $ for a complete relation and i finally got her for 160 $"

Internet users chating on these sites use their own created language. FS for Full service BJ for Blow job HJ for hand job. They use code to express.

(The journal quote 3 citation coming from these site after)

SA,

From what I heard, it is the first part of the JDM article which appeared Saturday that humiliates the provincial police, and features a bunch of quotes that makes them look like complete morons. This, according to my source, will spark a slew of busts in the coming weeks as the police seek to redeem their image. If I were you I would stay away from those FS clubs until September.

Saturday's article was on the front page and the first two full pages of the paper. Today's follow up was much smaller, less than a quarter page. They did mention both boards and also afluent "tourists" from the US and Ontario who come here for the "bargains". Todays article was easy to miss for someone that wasn't looking for it as a follow up to the main one of yesterday.

I think EB is right. I have driven by Frontiere once this year and seen like 6 or 7 SQ vehicles out front. Scared I drove on into Riviere-de-la-Beaudette for 30 mins. When I came back they were all gone. I talked about it later that night with a dancer in the club, and she said the whole thing was just a show (happens every month or so) and that nobody got arrested. Well folks, next time the visit won't be a paper tiger!

EB
Get a new source.
Basically the Saturday article was one trip
down the old provincial route #112.The author
of the article Jean-Phillipe Pineault interviewed
a few owners(states which 2 did not return his
calls) who gave standard answers, workers who
gave minimalist answers,Stella employee Valerie
Boucher who generalized.The police response
seemed to be scripted - usual banalities designed
not to compromise on going investigations with a
touch of surprise aimed at getting the reporter to
tell more.The R des A(liquor board) spokesperson
decried the lack of inspectors - just over 10 for the
whole province with over 10 000 licensed
establishments,with 3 600 holding permits for shows
with or without nudity.(Failing to explain why 3 will show
up together to inspect a newly opened licensed Indian
buffet)

The last three paragraphs(3-6 lines of a 4 column page)
touched briefly on the "sex tourist" and the internet
sites.Obviously with minimal depth.

The Sunday article was much smaller - maybe 1/3 of
the Saturday piece but dealt with the internet sites
and "sex tourists".Connecticut was mentionned within
the context of the internet site and not within the
context of someone who actually visited one of the
establishments described in the previous article.
Sex-analyst is the only handle mentionned and after
doing a quick search on Merb my lazy indicator got the
impression that the reporter did most of his research
via Merb as the handle does come up for various
South Shore clubs and the numbers used in the
story are similar.

Anti-american or anti-anglo sentiments were never
expressed nor were anti-rodent feelings vented(LOL).
(Response to a synopsis of your posts in various
threads on various sites)

You may get a few police raids as a PR gesture
as long as they do not hamper on going investigations.

So EB get a new source or a shorter chain that is harder
to yank.
