RIP Philip Seymour Hoffman July 23, 1967 - Feb 02nd, 2014

http://www.tmz.com/person/philip-seymour-hoffman/

Phillip Seymour Hoffman was found dead Sunday in a New York City apartment of a reported drug overdose.

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ ... the actor was found Sunday morning inside of his Greenwich apartment ... and they're still on scene investigating.

Details surrounding his death are unclear ... but the actor had struggled with drug problems ... most recently checking himself into a rehab facility for heroin back in May.

As we previously reported ... Hoffman had been clean for 23 years but fell off the wagon in 2012.

Shocking news about this great actor's death!!

So many great performances in so many great roles!!

The list of great performances is too long to list.

Sadly, he won't get to watch today's Superbowl, which is expected to be a great one.....

My favorite performance is when he played Brad in the Big Labowski. He was the Big Labowski's personal assistant. I love it when the Dude meets Bunnie Labowski for the first time. Bunnie offers to suck Duder's cock for 500$. And Brad can't watch...unless he pays 100$. Brad breaks out in nervous laughter

Later when the Dude and Walter botched the hand off of Bunnie's ransom, Brad says "This is our concern Dude." I'll never forget that line.

This was his greatest role.

RIP

A few years ago I read an interview with Hoffman in which he spoke frankly about his past drug abuse and he said he liked all recreational drugs and especially liked heroin. I thought his comments were odd at the time.

You wonder whether this is a Corey Monteith situation in which he went back to the last best dosage of heroin after a long layoff from the drug. The body builds up resistance to heroin dosages over time and overdoses happen when a user goes back to the last best dose which was tolerated in the past due to a resistance build up, but is now fatal to the same body. If the needle was still in his arm it sounds like he went quick after the injection.

It's somewhat of a good thing that he was found prior to the Superbowl. If not, the rumours would have been flying that he may have committed suicide because he possibly would have lost a lot of money betting on the Broncos.

But since he was found prior to the game, it looks like an accidental overdose.

I think he was even better in the movie Happiness with an even more pathetic character

Little Billy finally came at the end..it was classic

Best Regards

The CBS national news with Scott Pelle reported this as their lead story tonight. They said that his apartment door was found double locked and Hoffman died alone. They also reported he recently split with his longtime GF Mimi O'Donnell (mother of his 3 kids) and O'Donnell told cops he called her 10 pm Saturday night and he sounded high during the call.

They also reported that witnesses saw Hoffman purchase the heroin on the street from 2 dealers. 70 bags total found in his apartment and according to cops they are looking at whether the heroin was mixed with fentanyl which is drug "napalm."

The report said Hoffman was paying $11,000 a month rent for his Greenwich Village apartment and $10,000 per month on drugs.

He had a sizable role as Brad in the Big Labowski and they don't list this in his top 7? An important role in the greatest movie of all times and they don't list it? This list has no credibility.

RIP PSH AKA Brad of The Big Labowski

Phil's Last 24 Hours

In many ways, Philip Seymour Hoffman was a consummate New Yorker: happiest to go about his business quietly, without being bothered by strangers. His last day, spent going to local haunts near his West Village apartment, was proof of that.
In the afternoon, the actor, who was found dead at home on Sunday afternoon at the age of 46, stopped by the Chocolate Bar, a coffeehouse that he frequented. "He was fine," assistant manager Kate St. Cyr told DNAInfo.com. "He's been in a great mood, really happy."

Inside Philip Seymour Hoffman's Struggle with Drugs
St. Cyr added that Hoffman often stopped in with his three children, and the group would indulge in peanut butter swirl ice cream. "He seemed to have a really great relationship with his kids," St. Cyr said, calling the Oscar winner "a really sweet dad." "That's, I think, what's upsetting most of us. We feel really sad for his kids." That evening, Hoffman enjoyed a quiet dinner with two men at Automatic Slims, a restaurant down the street from his home. "They were in an out within an hour," a bartender told People magazine. "They were deep in conversation. He had a cranberry and soda and a cheeseburger." The bartender added that while one of Hoffman's companions ordered a beer, the actor steered clear of alcohol. "He seemed fine," the bartender added.

Inside Philip Seymour Hoffman's Private Personal Life
What happened next is a bit darker. He was supposed to pick up his kids from their mother, costume designer Mimi O'Donnell, Sunday morning, and his failure to arrive raised concerns. A friend, David Katz, came to check in on him and found his body. A law enforcement official told ABC News that heroin was found at the scene, and a hypodermic needle was sticking out of Hoffman's arm. A cause of death is expected to be released today. "We are devastated by the loss of our beloved Phil and appreciate the outpouring of love and support we have received from everyone," his family said in a statement. "This is a tragic and sudden loss and we ask that you respect our privacy during this time of grieving. Please keep Phil in your thoughts and prayers."

Maybe they thought it was too minor a role to make the top 7. Like the Jesus it's an unforgettable character, but mostly decorative in the plot (BTW it's Brandt, not Brad). I didn't see all the movies on the list so I can't compare.

The stars of Big Lebowski were Jeff Bridges and John Goodman. Hoffman had a smaller role. It does not really qualify although I like that movie a lot.

His role in Boogie Nights was just as minor. They list it because it was his breakthrough role, I think (that's why it's first, not because it's the best; they are in chronological order).
