    The economy of sex

Here's a little illustrated video on how sexual dynamics occur from an "economic" point of view. I see it somewhat goes along with an often read argument here to justify the hobby. Happy viewing, happy talking!

Just got back to Quebec and a hangover this morning ( reason for reply ).
Mtlguy78. Reply with quote? I am pretty sure a huge majority of us know what thread we are in and you were second poster. This happens a lot here.

Very true! Especially when this applies directly to the post just before.

    Great video by the way

But I think that sex economics is one of the main reason women don't like prostitution, despite all the talk about woman image and dignity. They see it like a Walmart that will put their little store out of business.

Please don’t consider it as a self serving compliment but I have always been impressed by much higher than average IQ level of this board members, lol. The Wal-Mart analogy is a good one. Having a sexual partner, however, has never been a primary driving force for the marriage. Economy and procreation were. Now with the equality of sexes the economic stimulus is a very weak one and sometimes negative. I believe the marriage as an institution will be transformed dramatically in the coming few decades. We will see the rise to a term marriage, when people are consent to stay together until their kids reach say 16 and then can opt out. Some other forms of unions with multiple partners as well and other will be also institutionalized... With the appearance of the short-term marriage that in some cases will assume monetary compensation to the partner, the already porous border between commercial and non-commercial sex will slowly dissolve...

I agree with easyguy. Before the equality of the sexes became a reality, women were dependent on marriage for economic security. The erosion of marriage as a social institution will likely cause an increase in supply of both full and part time sex workers. Online dating has also developed a large grey area in which Sugar Daddy sites exist and operate under the basic premises of prostitution, yet done under the valid and legal guise of a dating website. I have a friend that belongs to such a website and the whole idea behind it is a "date" in exchange for money but the date is expected to include sex. I see more of these kinds of websites developing in the future.

But sex has often been the reason behind an impromptu marriage. It's relatively recent that love is considered the ideal reason for marriage. Throughout history it was mostly for practical reasons. And because marriage was a pre-requisite for sex, people got the wrong impression that love was now a pre-requisite for sex.

I know dating sites are widely used for escorts in some countries. Whatever works best around the local laws. Sex finds a way.

easyguy, who talked about a Wallmart? Adding the appropriate quotation would greatly enhance the clarity of this discussion.

sciocnarf, I disagree (just for the fun of disagreeing by the way). However extended prostitution may become, women would still outnumber men on the sex for pleasure market. We are doomed either to charm or to pay on that market. Charming has never been an important thing in the past. You had to do it once, often not even once because marriages were arranged in most instances.

Did I say Walmart? I meant Target. They call their employees ''associates'' but we know they are all exploited...

We should do like the Moso people of China. They are a matriarchal society with no marriage. ''heterosexual activity occurs only by mutual consent and mostly through the custom of the secret nocturnal 'visit'; men and women are free to have multiple partners and to initiate or break off relationships when they please.''
Well, I guess you still need to be attractive enough to get someone to want you.
