At a top restaurant like Queue de Cheval dinner(app, entree, dessert, wine) costs about $125CAD per person with a medium priced bottle of wine. You can spend a lot less at other places but its a good idea to plan on at least $75 per person (even if you stay away from booze) at most good restaurants.

Bars and Clubs I've been to charge at least $6 for a beer and up to $10-20 for a good drink, say a 15 year old Glenfiddich for example. I've never paid a cover charge but if the place is hoppin you should be prepared to slide the bouncer at least a $20 to get in quick or get a good table no matter where you are.

Strip clubs if busy will definitely require a bribe to the bouncer for a good table and quick entrance, another $20 should cover it. Beers here are just as expensive if not more than regular clubs in my experience. Lap dances go from $10 to $15 per song with extras being well, extra.

By lounge can I infer that you mean cigar lounge? Good Cubans' run anywhere from $25 to $75 each. The single malts that go with them are not cheap either.

Cab fare isn't cheap and neither is parking/gas if you choose to drive. All in all, expensive but worth it as a night on the town in Montreal is a great time if you go to the right places and are not uptight about dropping some cash. New York is more expensive in my opinion. Les Bon Temps Roulet!

For the doorman at the strip clubs... $5 is planty. unless you're coming with 15 of your best friends, then your friends should tip him, not you. But hey, one can spend his money any way he wants. I would reserve the $20 bills for the girls...

When I travel up north, the average day runs me anywhere from $600-1500CAD.

That's a full day...
Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner.
Drinks for the the hotel room
Drinks out at a bar
Strip Clubs for the night
and then whatever happens after the clubs close. (Either late night food & drinks, or fun)

What I usually do is figure out how much I think I'll need in CAD, using a converter like http://www.xe.com/ucc/ then I add an extra $200-300US just incase...

That's my way, some may differ...

Doormen are good friends to have!

If an altercation occurs a doorman will be much more likely to see someone who gave them a nice tip in a favorable light. It also helps if you have a special preference of where you like to sit or which waitress you would like to be served by. Its really no different than tipping a bartender, tipping one well will make them remember your name, what you like to drink, inside information on which girls like to get it done and maybe an introduction, and they will serve you before they serve someone who stiffs them. I just want to make sure I'm going to be taken care of by the staff so my friends and I will get maximum enjoyment out of our time in the club. In NYC/LA/SF its hard to get in the door at the popular clubs at all unless you know someone who works there, tips or "bribes" if you like, are how non-famous guys get in the door.

I agree with HonestAbe, tipping the bouncer is always a good idea (strip club or any club) you don't have to do it but it will get you a better table or past the line up and often (in higher end clubs) if tipped enough the bouncer will tell the waitress to "take care of this table" and you won't have to wait forever for your drinks.

Let me clarify me previous post, yes Oliver is right you must tip to get into all strip clubs, I was referring to other clubs (non stripping variety) like Time, Circus, Stereo, etc... when I stated that "you don't have to do it". Being a tourist and attempting to get into some of these clubs or even a "non-famous" local guy as HonestAbe described, can be a difficult task (as well as getting service once in) I just wanted to give some guidance on how to avoid "being stuck behind the rope" as they say, to some future visitors to our fine city. Believe or not there are quite a few clubs like this here in Montreal, but they do normally go unadvertised. Have fun rishid.
