Reading the thread "Do any Sp's/Strippers know how to defend themselves?", started by HonestAbe, I felt that maybe some of us SW's would be interested in taking a course in self-defence. A defence course that is geared towards the situations we encounter as sex workers. I am trying to put a class together through Stella's, with support from the staff there. They have had a few defence classes in the past that had a good turn out.

We will need a fairly large (at least a dozen or more SW's, hopefully) and dedicated group to get a class going to make it worthwhile. As Stella's offers all their services free of charge to SW's, they need to make the most out of the services they provide. Meaning: you can learn self-defensive techniques and violence prevention for nothing...just because you are a sex worker!... if adequate interest in a course like this is shown. (However, donations are always appreciated at Stella's. Support your advocates, ladies...and concerned gentlemen!)

The course will not only cover physical self-defence techniques, but also recognition of client aggression, bad call warning signs, and for the purpose of prevention - I am hoping: date rape drug awarness and self-preparedness for the possibility of violent and unsafe situations. This is my current understanding of this course, BTW, as I have not personally taken it...yet. Any requests for certain knowledge will be reviewed and considered for part of the course.

Please send me a private message if you are interested in being part of a Sex Worker's Defence Course at Stella's, in order to maintain your anonymity, (if you so wish to have it so). Comments are accepted in this thread for the purpose of discussion of these services from Stella's, but anonymity cannot be guaranteed in that case. However, comments by those who are just interested in discussing the course out of curiousity, will be gladly responded to.

I will either have to pass on to Stella's staff, your email address, or I will provide an email address to those who PM me for this course, of the co-ordinator leading this self-defence course. Either way, I hope that those at Stella's will be as empowering and sensitive to your needs as a sex worker as they have been to mine.

You are more than worthy. You are part of an ancient tradition of giving divine pleasure. Remember who you are, Goddesses!

With much love and respect for my colleagues in the industry,

Magda

Well, I was hoping for a better response. I don't even have any private messages regarding this.

One other area that is covered is your rights, even as a Sex Worker, in the case of being assaulted. You do have rights, even if your profession is not recognized. You have rights as a human in Canada.

Magda, be patient sweety, I am sure not every body has seen this yet... I just logged on myself. I will be happy to attend this self defense class... it is always good to refresh these courses.

Might I suggest you ask Stella to put out an announcement of this class on their email list? Not all working girls log onto MERB, just as not all are a part of Stella. Also talk to your fellow dancers, perhaps put up a sign in the changing room/bathroom of various strip clubs. Just some ideas...

Really cool of you to do this Magda!

Don't despair to quickly. May I suggest contacting agency owners (directly and privately) and asking them to have their ladies attend and for a small donation to Stella to help sponsor the class? Post the results of who supported the class here in this thread as a commendation for caring about their ladies. Just an idea. Best Wishes.
