An east-end man is to be charged today in the death of a 26-year-old woman found dead in his apartment early yesterday.

Montreal police say the victim was working as an escort and the 31-year-old man arrested yesterday was a client whom she had met very recently.

Police found the victim - identified as Julie Marcil, 26, by the Quebec coroner's office - about 4:20 a.m. when officers burst into the second-floor apartment above a day-care centre on St. Denis St. near St. Zotique St.

Marcil's friends had tried to call her on her cellular phone but she wasn't answering, which was unlike her.

A man and a woman described by police as either friends or co-workers of Marcil placed a 911 call after the man refused to open the door to them.

"They yelled and they broke a window to try to contact him, but he didn't move," said Constable Ian Lafrenière.

Officers from the local police station arrived moments later and broke down the door of the apartment.

Urgences Santé technicians tried to revive Marcil but were unsuccessful. She was pronounced dead at an area hospital.

Lafrenière said police found the man sitting on a sofa sipping a glass of water.

He seemed in a daze when arrested and was unco-operative with investigators, refusing to even give his name.

There were clear signs of a fight. Police confirmed there were marks on Marcil's neck. The man was treated in hospital for a burn on his arm and some other injuries.

An autopsy is scheduled for this week. Police found drugs inside the apartment, which they said may have played a part.

A woman who identified herself as a friend of the victim said Marcil had just met the man Monday night.

"She didn't know him at all," said Isabelle Paradis, who stopped briefly at the scene. "(Monday) was the first time she met him and she'd only been there a few hours.

"She was in the wrong place at the wrong time. It could have happened to any girl."

Police declined to identify the man, who they said does not have a criminal record.

Neighbours heard little and most didn't even notice the man who lived in the apartment.

"I wake up sometimes at night but I didn't hear anything," said Jean-Charles Hubert, a freelance news photographer who lives right next door. "I saw the police cars outside the door and I thought there might have been something happening at the day care."

Marcil's was the 28th homicide in Montreal this year. There were also 28 during the corresponding period in 2002.

Very sad story ! Moment of reflexion for all of us.

This case shows us the "risky" part of this profession. The lady often never know (except for a regular client) what could happen... some misunderstanding or bad communication between the two persons combined to others factors (drugs, alcohol, etc.), and suddenly.... the lost of control !!!

As for any other kind of busines, 90% to 99% of the clients are good and reliable... unfortunately, the trouble is coming from the 10% ! This story remember me a similar case about 7-8 years ago in Montreal... well known probably by some of the hobbyists.

On the other hand, we are in front of the bad side of our world... man kill others man, man kill woman, man kill sometimes a friend, husband kill sometimes his wife...

But, there is still 90% to 99% of good and reliable persons...

A momennt of thoughts for this lady !

* Percentage mentionned above are not coming from any official source... just IMHO !

I don't want to condone the act but this could be a simple mistake. I don't know what you call it but some people get off sexually by being strangled?????? I once met a girl who told me she was into this, I abruptly ended that relationship!

Just my 2 cents worth.

Re: Re: Re: Man held in escort's death (Montreal Gazette)

Just to clarify my post if it was leading to misunterpretation...

When I wrote:
«This case shows us the "risky" part of this profession. The lady often never know (except for a regular client) what could happen... some misunderstanding or bad communication between the two persons combined to others factors (drugs, alcohol, etc.), and suddenly.... the lost of control !!!»,

The idea was to point out that a meeting between two unknown persons can go perfectly or can go badly (the worst seems to happenned in that case)... It is the "dangerous" or "risky" side of the profession. In that particular case, it's still too early to know exactly what happenned in that meeting (perhaps we will never know exactly).

When I mentionned:
«This story remember me a similar case about 7-8 years ago in Montreal... well known probably by some of the hobbyists. »,

I was referring to a murder case in Montreal 7-8 years ago. The man (client of an escort) was found guilty after the trial... I will not go into the details.

One of the idea was also to see this unfortunate event relatively to others unfortunate events, as part of the sad side of our world.

Finaly, another idea was to point out that about 90% to 99% of good and reliable persons...

A moment of thoughts for this lady !

Sp murdered 7-8 years ago

Joey:

Are you referring to the sp who also was a dancer at Chez Paree, who got murdered while she was driving her car downtown shortly after finishing her shift at the club? I remember reading the story in a local tabloid dealing with crime and the sex industry.

If i remember correctly (and if we're talking about the same girl), she used to work for an escort agency which is still active today and talked about on the internet. If it's her, i was unaware that the suspect/murderer had been a client. If so....was he a client of the club, or the agency's?

Nadia?

Nadia was a genuinely nice person. She said she looked after a sick relative and, hence, only worked 3 days a week with LFMJ. I believe she went indy recently.

This is tragic, that something like this would happen to such a nice person. :(

JustaJohn,

To answer your question.. No, I was not refering that case you mentionned above. It was another case... the lady was working alone and she had met the client for the first time. Her body was found in the alley the day after near the appartment where the encounter took place... downtown Montreal.

The girl who was killed was actually NADIA ex LFDMJ. So sad! I knew her.

From what I have read in the newspaper, the lady who was killed was about 5'0".

I have met Nadia from LFMJ at some occasions and she is defenitely taller than that (she is about 5'6"). I am not sure at all that it's her.

Luxure VIP

According to the journal de MTL, Julie worked for Luxure VIP for the past few months but has been working for about 10 years. She was only 26 years old.

The presumed killer has been named, Masimo ....

May her dear soul rest in peace.

Nadia, Nadia, Nadia......

To clear up matters:

It is definitely not Nadia of LFMJ, who then became Sky at Sensual Delights. They are not the same height, the same age, and don't share the same 'real' name.

It also isn't Nadia of Asservissante, which i'm surprised no one mentionned in the previous threads. Again, not the same name, and not the same age.

I guess it wasn't one of the more well-known Nadia(s).......let's not forget there is rumoured to be thousands of sps in the Mtl area, and i'm certain there are dozens of girls using the name Nadia. Maybe more......

God Bless her soul.
