Maybe poor on the ice but a success for Shareholders /owners

Leaf land my rejoice at this great feat !!!!:thumb:

Yes, Leaf fans can rejoice in the fact that they have had a totally inept and useless laughingstock of a team for almost half a century (!!!!!!)...but at least the owners have been getting rich laughing at them.

The Toronto Maple Leaf are the only NHL franchise making the top 50 list !

Great post! But was there any doubt??

I hope no one thought the habs or the red wings (who play out of one of the worst cities on the planet) had a chance.

Is Deadtroit still even considered a city? Maybe a city of absolute horror, thus why coach Babcock wants to leave after next season.....I wonder where he will go ........:D

Imagine what the Leafs could be if they could get on an extended playoff run or actually win the Stanley Cup (no knock intended) considering their highly devoted big following despite being perennially left out. Take another perspective on that potential from a team that barely had a pulse in the 70s and 80s and had far far further to rise than almost any other. Once perennial doormats who couldn't sell out a game if you gave away free beer, the New England Patriots have sold out every game since 1994 and are now the world's 8th most valuable franchise in all sports, 4th in the Western Hemisphere behind bigger metropolitan area teams like the NY Yankees (4th), Dallas Cowboys (5th), Los Angeles Dodgers (6th). My Boston Red Sox are 11th.

If the Leafs ever get on a real playoff run they could move up fast significantly from their 26th place ranking on this list. And, how are the seemingly most well known hockey team Canadiens not on this list?. I'm shocked.

BTW: Are we surprised the top clubs on this list are dominated by European Futbol teams? We shouldn't be, though much of the first half of the list is dominated by NFL teams. I believe several of the World Cup Champion Germans came from the 7th ranked Bayern team.

Cheers,

Merlot

George Steinbrenner purchased the Yankees for $10 million in 1973. The Yankees are now worth $2.5 billion. What is your opinion of this appreciation of the asset which according to my math is $2,490,000,000? Do you think Steinbrenner wisely invested that $10 million in 1973? The owners of the asset are now his sons Hal and Hank Steinbrenner.

Look behind you.
I was looking for my GLORIOUS EDMONTON OILERS on the list but alas I gave up the search. Maybe if someone had a list starting from the bottom. There is always next year, said that last year but for sure this year :)

The Habs and the Wings are more interested in putting quality on the ice and less interested in selling Koolaid.

Also, Detroit and Montreal fans can't be fooled like the gullible, unknowledgeable Leaf fans who year after year after year (47 so far!!!!) fall for the propaganda and think they have a hope....until their sad sack losers invariably COLLAPSE yet again...and provide uninterrupted LAUGHTER for fans of the 29 REAL teams in the NHL. Someone should move the Brooklyn Bridge to Hogtown - undoubtedly the same suckers who support the Leafs would be lining up to BUY it!

Leafs fall from top spot on Forbes list of NHL team values

Sports fan hello

Toronto had been NHL's most valuable team since 2006

The Toronto Maple Leafs are no longer considered the NHL's most valuable team — or even the most valuable of the league's Canadian-based clubs.

Both the New York Rangers and the Montreal Canadiens have overtaken Toronto in Forbes's annual ranking of NHL franchise values.

The Rangers are worth $1.2 billion US, according to Forbes, followed by the Canadiens at $1.18 billion and the Leafs at $1.15 billion.

Toronto had held the top spot every year since 2006, but the Rangers cashed in on renovations to their arena, Madison Square Garden, while the Canadiens' value rose 18 per cent from last year on the strength of a lucrative new local television rights deal.

Poor on-ice performance combined with a weaker Canadian dollar were cited by Forbes as reasons for the Leafs' decline in value from $1.3 billion last year.

The Chicago Blackhawks ($930 million) and the Boston Bruins ($750 million) rounded out the top five, followed by the Vancouver Canucks ($750 million) in sixth place.

The Edmonton Oilers ($460 million) placed 12th, the Calgary Flames ($440 million) were 15th, the Ottawa Senators ($370 million) were 18th and the Winnipeg Jets ($350 million) were 20th.

With a valuation of $190 million, the Florida Panthers were ranked by Forbes as the least valuable of the 30 NHL franchises.
