Look behind you.
Personally I enjoy the CFL, like the 3 downs and different field size. I know the caliber of players is not the same but it is an enjoyable game. In 45 min the Esks play the Stamps. Last nights Sask & Winn game went to the final minutes.
I have never experienced a live NFL game ( yes I am a fan also ) and may see one this year ( wearing an opposing uniform at an Oakland game............... NOT ). Go San Diego :D

I like the live experience of going to a game in Montreal but to watch on tv, meh not so much. As far as going to a NFL game live and in person, i have been to many games in Dallas (old texas stadium) and a few in the old Giants stadium and NOTHING compares to seeing the NFL Live. Went to a Oklahoma Sooners game once and one word describe the atmosphere....... AMAZING!

How come CFL is NOT watched in Mexico/America or Australia... you can enjoy it but the audience is not widespread enough. Its gotta change!

The NFL now has a minor league system that will probably eclipse the CFL in 2 secs (Brooklyn Bolts is one of the teams look it up).

I love Canada.... but you gotta adapt to survive. We talking about $$ here, not pride or tradition. CASH!! (hate say it but these Canadian dollars look awfully silly, nothing like them Benjamin's baby) Look at all changes NFL put into play....expansion teams.... moving extra point back 10 yards. Monday/Thursday/ Sunday football.

CFL sucks cause America loves football yet they rather grind through the summer with no football then watch the CFL!!

We love College FB. Why do we hate the CFL?

I know you Quebecers hate Toronto but once Buffalo bills move to Toronto which is almost setup OR! we Expand into Toronto as an expansion team and put one in Vancouver its over. CFL will go crashing into the night, the passing games too "easy" scorings too "easy" WR get a early start.... Your 2 pipes sucks (off and defen)

A perfect example of NFL greatness thats lacking in CFL is the Seahawks / 49ers playoff game. 49's are inches from a 1st down, so they send Kapernick out on a 4th down and dance around like a monkey trying to draw a offside penalty, you don't get this in the CFL!! Playoff NFL is like NFL on meth and crack and heroine together. CFL playoff is like a cup of coffee

(if the expansion teams fail then Bill gates will just suck it up and buy it for a billion dollars move it to vegas, but I KNOW NFL will make it in Toronto.) Hell they might as well be flying an American flag in Toronto.

NFL as a product is terrible, very conservative, every year they are taking more fun out of the game, you can't dance in the end zone and starting this year you can't dunk the ball over the upright after scoring, what a load of crap, that is why the NFL is called the "No Fun League", the problem with the NFL is that you have a bunch of old rich geezers calling the shots, the CFL is a more exciting game, larger field, three downs, more scoring, endzone celebrations are allowed, etc, watch a CFL game and a NFL game and tell me which one is more exciting, the NFL is good for one thing, gambling and making money which I intend to do a lot of this year just as I have done in the past.

The CFL is a joke league come on. We play the same teams like 3 times a year the and you get a point for attempting and missing a field goal, really? Your not wrong about the NFL owners buzz killing the sport but all their moves are to make the games go faster or protect key players (offensive players). Please justify to me how a supposedly professional CFL of grown ass men nrule change to award a fg attempt, is this little league. The CFL relative to the NFL is like bowling league where we cover one of the gutters , widen the lanes and halve the distance. It just makes Canadians look bad.

Wider fields, massive endzones, points for kick attempt mises, 3 downss, too few teams enough is enough. We need to dissolve this whole league and create one NFL franchise. It would be better then this farce.

I would not call the CFL a farce, the talent is not as good as the NFL ( we do not have the population the states has to pick from ) but I like to watch the game. College games with 100,000 plus spectators would be nice to see live also. The salary does not compare as most players need a job during the off season to survive which is sad, I think if our players here were getting near NFL salaries the quality would improve.. This year SD and whoever they are playing when I get time off is the plan. As for betting sports select is not in Quebec WTF, NFL Sunday is not the same here without a good combo ticket in your hands.

You think the NFL is bad? Try being a Lions fan all your life. We have won one playoff game in my lifespan. We are hoping that Detroit sells the Lions and we get a CFL franchise.

Now, on the No Fun League. I have been playing coaching or officiating football since the 70's. The taunting is out of control. Anytime someone scores a TD, gets a 1st down, sacks a QB, or even makes a tackle they think they have to break out into dance. I for one can't stand it.

When the NCAA first started to address the problem they made a film called NCAA Football: A Celebration of Teamwork. The film was for players, coaches, officials, and boosters to show them what was not going to be tolerated. The key was any action that was 1. Choreographed, prolonged and delayed and 2.) designed to focus attention on ones self was illegal. The penalty is unsportsmanlike conduct. Spontaneous celebration with teammates was legal and encouraged. They also addressed taunting.

I am all for it.

I'm Canadian and i can't stand the CFL. Many years ago, a good buddy of mine dubbed it the Cheap Football League. Another dubbed it the CheapFuckingLeague.

It's mostly a passing league. If you don't get much yardage on first down, you have to pass since there are only three downs. The players are much smaller and slower than the NFL. If you miss a field goal, you are still awarded a single point if the opposing player doesn't run it out. On offense, the receivers are all in motion when the ball is snapped. I swear i see them offsides on half the plays, but it's never called. The officials are hired on a part-time basis. They all have full-time jobs doing something else, like teaching or nursing.

It's basically a league full of the NFL's rejects. Most of the players are paid peanuts as compared to the NFL and other major pro leagues (MLB, NHL, NBA). Even players in the pro minor leagues of those sports make more money!

Montreal football fans don't realize this. The women all seem to think these guys are millionaires. A few years ago, i was in bed with an sp and she was bragging about knowing a couple of Alouette players. Heck, i thought she was going to cum just talking about them. Finally i told her "don't you realize most of these stiffs other than Calvillo are being paid peanuts? Don't you realize both you & I make more money than these guys?" She didn't believe me, so I googled their salaries. She was shocked, and from her expression i believe she stopped being an Alouette fan at that moment! lol

I chuckle at how the locals treat these guys like heroes and give them VIP treatment anywhere they go. Just a few days ago, a buddy of mine recognized one of the players and said hello to him. The player ignored him. He dissed him. To be honest, i had never heard of that guy before. But that's not surprising since it's a third-rate football league, far behind the NFL & US College football. I shook my head when this happened thinking to myself: "Who the fuck do these people think they are? They're nothing but second-rate professional football players & act like their the king-shit of the world!" lol

The CFL is a league that is very popular out west and in Montreal because those are smaller cities that don't really have much major sports teams. Montreal has the habs and not much else. Calgary has the Flames. Winnipeg the Jets, and Edonton the Oilers. And there's Vancouver, with the Canucks. In the East, the Hamilton Tiger Cats are popular. But then again, it's a city with no major sport.

The CFL is at best a poor man's football league. It's an inferior product. Heck, it even welcomed a bum like Chad Johnson with open arms! He had burned his bridges everywhere in the NFL! Tell me now it's not a league of rejects! lol

Give me the NFL any day! :thumb:

A province does not have the talent pool to support a team, but Canada could very easily create at least one NFL calibur team. Nothing would make me happier to see the CFL go away and be replaced with one Canadian team like the Raptors and the NBA we can all get behind as a country.

If we want to start another thread about all the stupid contradictions in the NFL, bad rules and terrible policies I have plenty of fodder for that as well lol

And all sports are made more intersting by gambling, whether its a monetary incentive or just bragging rights it really does make any and all games more interesting. I was considering propsing a merb NFL pickem league for fun, but wasn't sure.

I'm also VERY VERY fucking excited that Buffalo might move to Toronto, I think it could be a positive thing for EVERYONE. Take care of this CFL bullshit.... Push NFL "minor" league into Canada... get this shit on right track...

NFL as a business... I HATE THEM. contracts not guaranteed ... people get crippled and bottom of HAVE NOTS are paid a lowly 800K with no security . BULL SHIT.

As a source entertainment.. ZERO to non ... the best!!

Contracts should be 1/2 guaranteed.... some security...

Surprise-surprise! Montreal Alouettes interested in another NFL reject! This time it's gay football player Michael Sam! First they sign Chad Johnson for publicity reasons, now they want to sign Michael Sam for probably the same reasons. What a joke of a league!

Montreal Alouettes interested in Michael Sam

p.s. They sign people for exactly the same reasons NFL teams don't want them. Hillarious!

The Buffalo Bills aren't going anywhere. And i can't see Toronto ever getting a team ahead of Los Angeles.

Its very conceivable actually especially as a business move Toronto could get a team. As the NFL you can add another team into a state that already has 2 with California or add a team that would have an entire country behind it in Toronto. Look at the Raptors, last playoffs their tickets were on average the highest in the NBA it could happen and the CFL ain't setting the world on fire.

NFL as a business its tough to gauge because careers are so short lived but players are so bad with the exorbitant amounts of money they make its equal parts both their faults and the owners self protective rules. But when you make in a year what most make in a decade its hard to blame anyone but themselves.

I don't doubt an NFL team in Toronto would be extremely successful. However, after the Jon Bon Jovi/Larry Tannenbaum/Rogers debacle, i doubt they'd ever be allowed to leave Buffalo. Actually, i doubt they'd ever be able to win the bidding for the team, even if they outbid Terry Pegula's group.

And let's say a Toronto-based group buys another struggling franchise (e.g. Jacksonville?), would they be allowed by the league to relocate to Toronto, with the Bills already literally next door? Would the league give Toronto an expansion team? Maybe, maybe not.

But without an NFL-capacity stadium in sight, and no plans of building one, unfortunately i can't see it happening. Would the provincial and federal governments agree to help fund a new stadium? It's a big question mark considering it would likely mean the end of the CFL's Toronto Argonauts franchise.

Your not wrong, but I think the Canadian government would bend backwards for a chance to get some of the NFL tourism, revenue and exposure here. And lets be honest the revenue one NFL team could generate dwarfs the entire CFL league potential so that would barely be a factor. Most NFL players make the entire an CFL teams salaries and then some because its worth it.

And the Bills being close isn't necessarily a bad thing, just sets up an instant rivalry which would be great for both franchises.

Anyways nothing your saying is wrong DOC , but one can dream....

I follow the league a bit. I like the fact that half the team has to be Canadian . Every team has a chance to win and host the grey cup. Montreal is 2 and 7 and they are tied for second place one game behind the leader. Only in the cfl. Lol!

I think Doc is being a bit of a jerk here. There is no doubt that because of the money the players here are not of the same calibre. But the game is very entertaining because of 3 downs. Much more passing than in the NFL and a much more exciting game overall. If all participants are evenly matched then the results are pretty much the same. I have found myself falling asleep during many of an NFL defensive battle. And also during mostly running games. Very boring!!There are great games in the NFL and there are great games in the CFL. it's all about entertainment. The fact that one Alouette may have been an asshole is totally irrelevant. No assholes in the NFL? Shall we start a list? And because they earn less than you they are somehow inferior. Give me a break. You are a snob. Why not measure IQ in both leagues. Any idea who would come out ahead on that test! !
