Which French accent do you prefer?
I like the trema because it's often misunderstood and looks the same as the German umlaut.
Personally I prefer aigu but regardless of the results I am very happy that you started this thread because it is a question that - for whatever reason - has gone ignored for far too long.

The french diphthong oe as an œ in l'œil. One can evaluate a english speaker's ability to learn french by his capacity to quickly get this sound.
For me it's the absolute opposite ! Nothing turns me on more than an English woman speaks French !
