    Before the fall

Our Dear Leader's new right wing Fundamentalist Christian attempt to (main stream media quotes from Harper Senators and MPs) "eliminate prostitution" are now law.

A number of new agencies have suddenly sprung up. Keeping in mind that the internet is universal and therefor very likely the domain of "the man", do you have any comments?

Of course nobody here would ever advocate .... well .... what have you ....

What a delusional government we have that they think they can "eliminate prostitution", it's been around for over 3700 years. It is after all the oldest profession.

    As it has always been..

But you're right on this one BL, more choices but smaller pie with the new law. But if this business follows the market laws, here is what will happen imo :

1/ Rates' decrease in the first few months (probably big rebates in february)

2/ Less choices in one year, cause in the long run, the offer always follow the demand...

Yes after the Chistmas rush most business have a tendency to drop and the escort industry is not different .
I am aware of the last 22 years or so for the Montreal market ,the owners that do not have any reserve might find the winter long !

    Good luck all

    Cheers

Not that sure about this. If people buy less cars, manufacturers will start to produce less cars but that's not true for sex work. Women have a non-limiting supply of sex that doesn't cost them anything to produce. For most escorts, this is still the best way to make good money even with a contraction of the market. They have to work harder to make the same money, but they can still make 10 times more than working at McDonald's.

In fact, the number of sex workers is more probably dictated by the health of the economy outside of sex work. Unless there is suddently a big boom of high paying cushy jobs, I don't predict a significant decrease in the number of sex workers.

Because of the new law, there might be less choice in agency and an increase in indy advertisement. Some of the less fortunate ones might be driven into the street. People might change ways they operate, so it can be difficult to measure real differences in the offer/demand.

The cost is actually all around the servicing
    In calls rooms
    advertisement (website ,seo,offsite marketing etc....)
    Drivers,cabs,cars
    Telephone lines ,cell ,computers etc...
    Sexy clothing
Agencies have them and Indies too
If they don't make profits they will need to find something else

Indies going back to agencies does it really show ,they had success has a Indy ,if they have a handler are they really more Indy then in agencies ?

Without more data speculating is difficult
