Liverpool House looks great! There is also Joe Beef nearby. I'll be trying one of those very soon!

They are sister restaurants owned by the same guy and Anthony Bourdain ate there when he did his show on Montreal. He is a buddy of the owner. Bourdain had the Dover Sole on that show, as I recall. Bourdain must have ordered it based on inside info so take your cues from there.

Liverpool House is not bad. I like their foie gras breakfast sandwich but in terms of raw oysters, I don’t think it does them any better than any reputable seafood/steakhouse. Not that I’m in the restaurant business, but I would think raw oyster is more about freshness/place of origin/handling and less on what a restaurant could/would do with it.

Anyone likes phoque meat on this Forum ? No Natives ?

I do. There was a restaurant in the Plateau that closed about 2.5 years ago called Au Cinquième Péché that always served phoque when it was in season. I had it there once, prepared several different ways and it was amazing. Your post got me thinking about heading north next week to try it again. Thank you.

I am vegan and obsess about fat but I am very active and need a lot of proteines. I heard there was 27 g of protein for 1g fat in phoque meat . I only eat oysters cause I like the texture and usually don't swallow semen to save 25 cal for a glass of red wine

If you like Mexican food try el rey del taco across from the Jean Talon Market and if you like spicy salsa I highly recommend their salsa 911, it's fantastic!

I had wondered where to get quality Mexican food in Montreal. Up until now only places I ever tried were Pepe and Carlos on Peel and Three Amigos on St. Catherine. I like a good taco. For ahi tuna tacos Deville Dinerbar has the best ever but for Mexican style this place above sounds good.

Comparing Pepe and Carlos-three amigo' s to rey del taco is like comparing watching minor league baseball (pepes+ 3 amigos) to major league baseball, (el rey) it's not even close imho.

Carlos and Pepes and Three Amigos is american mexican food (like many so called mexican food restaurant in north america). It's not mexican food.

Thanks Stroker7 but to be honest right now my knowledge of good restaurant is quite limited. I cook a lot since I got kids, all the time actually. My knowledge of girl is now fair ;)

Cheers,

p.s. ho by the way pretty much in front of Rey del taco there is restaurant Alep. Amazing! Syrian cuisine... only thing is you need to take the choice of the chef or your die! (that was a joke)

Ain't it the truth. While I do like El Rey del Taco, it's not my favorite Mexican place in Montreal. La Matraca at 4607 St. Denis (above Mont-Royal) for Mexican street food, T and T Tacos and Tortas at 51 Rachel West (corner of Clark), and La Tamalera at 226 Fairmount and numbers 1, 2 and 3 in my book.

If you like authentic Mexican tacos try Victor 4376, rue Notre-Dame O, in my neighborhood. They speak French Spanish and English and are very friendly too.
That area has really come alive. There's one block, just west of there that has a) the best Jewish deli in Montreal (Arthur's Nosh Bar), the only real quality New York Pizza (Adamo), a great Mexican place (Torteria Lupita), and one of the best patisseries in town in Rustique.

I'm not sure but I think I've heard that the people who own Lupita and Victor are related.
