26-year-old man stabbed to death in downtown Montreal

A block of Ste-Catherine St. W. has been cordoned off after police found the body of a 26-year-old man in a commercial building between Peel and Stanley Sts.

At 3:50 a.m., paramedics confirmed the man, visibly injured from what appeared to be stabbing wounds, had died.

The major crimes unit is on the scene. Constable Jean-Pierre Brabant confirmed this is Montreal’s second homicide of 2015.

Police say they have yet to identify the victim. But some media are reporting that Bobby Pellicano, a construction worker, is the victim of the stabbing after a friend of his called CBC News. A fight broke out after the victim lost a necklace.

The incident occurred at a private party held on an upper floor of a commercial building at the corner of Stanley St., which is currently under renovation.

Police said they questioned 40 people inside the building but so far have no suspects.

By late afternoon, the street was still blocked to traffic.

(by the way, the party in question was held in one of the buildings right across the street from Reubens Deli.)
