    Belle Knox versus This Guy

    http://www.dailycal.org/2015/02/13/u...g-school-work/

Remember the never ending hoopla in the media regarding Belle Knox, the Duke undergraduate who wants to eventually attend las school and is paying the high tuition costs by doing porn, stripping, and now selling her own line of sex toys.

I greatly admire Belle, but I cannot help but be amused at the different way that society views this male porn star who has earned several degrees and is currently in law school. When asked about the trials and tribulations, he mentions having to sometimes forego masturbating for three days, and when he does masturbate, for a time he mentioned needing to do so while standing up in order to better perform his scenes.

I think women would be happier in the long run if society treated them the same as men. Why did the world make such a big deal about what she does, but slap this guy on the back and say, "Damn, I wish I was him." That question would make an interesting case study in Belle's undergraduate Women's Studies classes at Duke. Although I still wonder if if would have been as big a deal if Belle had gone to UCLA.

It's the same reason people don't worry about male escorts. Men are seen as in charge of their life and can never be exploited. Society still has implicit (unconscious) attitudes toward gender roles that are the same as thousands of years ago. You don't get rid of that baggage within a few generations. I think that's why so much of our modern attitude is really contradictory. To make an analogy, we are trying to run a modern software or a very ancient machine, so we get a lot of ''does not compute'' errors.

Also, Belle Knox's porn carreer would probably have been better received if she had been in vanilla porn rather than in rough porn that is seen as more degrading.

If is all just amazing to me. My understanding of the male escort world (which is very limited) is that most male escorts primarily serve the gay community and the primary demand is for relatively young male escorts (18-25) who service middle-aged and older gay and bi-curious men. How is that any less exploitive than any perceived exploitation of female escorts? Same with porn. Women read and discuss 50 Shades of Grey at book club meetings and no one blinks an eye, but show a film clip of an 18 year-old woman doing consensual rough sex and the discussions on most web sites can't even begin to deal with it in a reasonable manner. Maybe Belle's generation will change things.

Concerning porn and 50 shades, it's not about content, but about the look of it and appearances. 50 shades is written to appeal to women, so it's good. Porn is designed to appeal to men so it's exploitive. Also, in a book you are being told what goes on in the woman's heads. You are told exactly how she feels. Readers might be uncomfortable with the activities, but you are literally in the head of the characters, so consent is not a problem. When they watch porn they don't know what is going on in the actor's head. You see those pictures and are left alone with your own thoughts and interpretations. It's much less comforting for those who don't like that.

Belle Knox is pretty much the only porn star I actively dislike for reasons it is pointless to get into. However the more I look into it, the worse she comes across.

However she is insanely cute in that sort of nerdy way I like.

There is going to be a Belle Knox movie. It will be on Lifetime, so it will probably be biased against the sex industry.

Interesting that the actual person, Miriam, seems to have disappeared from the Internet. Hopefully she simply earned enough money from doing porn, being a feature stripper, and lending her name to a line of sex toys, to get through undergrad and pursue her goal of going to law school, and is just busy studying.

It would have been classic if Bernie Sanders went the traditional politician role of having someone attractive and famous hang around the podium with him while campaigning. She could have been his official representative for free college, and he would have been a lot cooler with a hot porn star around him.
