Yes we did have Stern

We did have him but the CRTC intervene and the media did not approuve (was that a surprise?) and his career in Canada was short lived: "Stern had a short run on Toronto's Q-107 and Montreal's CHOM-FM, which broadcast him on a 10-minute delay. Both stations eventually dropped the show." cbc.ca

On T.V. now

Actually they broadcast him on T.V. too if I am not wrong. With T.V. the show is even more controversial with girls naked and mud fights between a stripper and a midget, interviews with Christian Slater and his trip to clubs, etc.

Shocked

I am shocked that there is so much censorship even up in Montreal. I would have figured you guys are so much more liberal than us.

Greetings,

I do not believe its any lack of liberism on Canada's part for Stern's removal. Let's be honest trash talk is what only defines his show, after a while its quite boring. I'll bet low audience rating did him.

My 2 cents

We are liberal but we also have rule and régulation and Stern did not obey the rule crtc just did the same to a talk show host in Quebec city

sirius blocking?

I apologize disrupting anyone by posting "on-topic", but earlier this week Howard and some listeners said that his sirius sattelite channels would be blocked to canadian subscribers due to the government. He encouraged canadians to complain to thier government who apparently allow all sorts of porn, but seem to have a problem with stern. I recall that this stemmed from stern's comments regarding the French people during the 9-11 times when France's position regarding the us policies was unpopular among media types.

This is why I brought up the topic.. after I was listening to Stern the other morning. Granted I am not a huge fan.. but free speech is free speech.. and if the FCC is so bad with it here. I do not see why there should be such great injustice for our neighbors to the North

Fuck Canada And The Crtc

The assholes in the CRTC have it in for Stern much like the FCC does in the US.
These fucking assholes are playing GOD and programme directors for you.
Go down to the states and pick up the hardware you need to get Stern form there.
Fuck this country and the lack of choices available.
But we can have CHOM with the lamest radio show featuring lame ass banter and them laughing hysterically at each other. They should shut it down cuz they have no listenership. You can verify this throught the ratings books. Stern had the ratings. Notice how the GAzette doesn't publish any more the ratings when they come out. The montreal media share this pathetic pie. The CRTC blackmailed the owners- get him off and we will have consideration for the other piles on our desk of applications for radio station and television channels you have before us. Brutal. The same 17 songs over and over. It is a mess. A low budget piece of shit. These dj dummies make less thatn minumum wage and have to beg for scraps of food form sponsors. But they are in bed and SUCKING THE CRTC boards cocks.

You are probably right. I remember that Stern has been criticizing France for years because he thinks they rolled over for the Nazis when they occupied.

Actually that's the opinion of a lot of people.

A lot of Stern's coments about the french were taken out of context by many Quebecers as they assumed he was speaking about french Canadians and they complained. I believe that Stern had the highest ratings for english radio in Quebec in the short period of time he was on. I would actually consider satellite radio if Howard Stern's show was available. At least it would be something different. As it is I don't see anything that would make me pay for what I now get for free. And as far as music is concerned I burn my own cd's for the car anyways.

I believe what really did him in was when he quite deliberately and explecitely insulted quebec as a whole.

I don't remember too well what he had said since it was a long while ago but it was definately aimed at us directly.

personaly I am glad he was taken off our airwaves, I don't care much for censorship, I feel it's pointless but at the same time that man is just an asshole who makes a living off of being an asshole.

If I want to listen to assholes I will go to the restroom of a mexican restaurant on bean night.

English radio in Montreal is unbelievably bland! I remember listening to Aaron and Tasso way back in the late 70's, and they are still on the air in 2006.

I loved the Howard Stern show. Sure it was crude and juvenile, bordering on just stupid at times, but it was also funny and unpredictable. There is no secret to Howard Stern's success. He just says out loud what most of us are thinking anyways, and does what most of us want to do but don't. He's not for all tastes, to be sure. But at least he added some variety to the radio landscape in this city.

We live in a very thin skinned society. Anything said can be twisted and taken out of context, any comment can be seen as a slight or an insult. It always amazes me how many people take comments made by the likes of Howard Stern and Don Cherry seriously. These guys make a living ruffling feathers with inane comments, yet so many people take them seriously and get insulted when they feel they are part of the group the comments are directed at. Just like the WWE....it's all a show! If these guys were bland and politically correct, would anybody be listening to them?
