Hey all,

over the past few weeks, I've noticed a steady increase in calls that seem to be for AirCanada. Most of the time, it was coming in from some strange +51 4xxx xxxx or +45 0xx xxxx number which almost made it look like it was coming from Montreal. When I checked it seems to be originating from Peru or Ukraine. Perhaps hoping for a long distance call back... dunno.

Last weekend, I got calls from a 514 number which I called back, and was some poor old woman that answered, so I'm guessing the scammers either modified the caller id, or they compromised her VoIP (if that's what she's using).

Just curious if anyone is aware of these scams...

I have experienced as well a large amount of these calls and the ones that claim a problem with your computer as well. Some originate from a local number so I just add it to my call block list and you hear once in a while the short ring and then silence - blocked.

Air Canada scam is the one I receive the most but there are a lot of them out there. I am one of those who has a cell and a land line (still don't know why) and I get these calls on both.....even though I am on the DNC list, I don't know how they get away with making these bogus calls.

You are not alone doggy, I keep both because it would be more expensive if I remove the landline , me too since I came back from Cuba,by AirCanada actually,I've been getting those but me any message that is recorded I hang up when I realize it...

I am constantly getting WestJet recorded calls " You are the lucky random winner of a $900 something or other on your next " and about there I hang up, I have received about 6 this month.

I've been getting these fairly frequently too. I did actually talk to someone, they started their sales pitch - told me I won and asked for my personal information. I asked where they were calling from and the girl refused to tell me. When I continued to demand that she tell me what company she was with she hung up on me! LOL But they still keep calling back.

I received a call from Revenue Canada, yes thats what they said on the message they left on my home voice mail. Obviously getting a call from the government I called them back the next day, yes at a 613 area code number (Ottawa) I asked to speak to the person who left the message and was passed to him. It was the fact that he had an Indian accent that made me wary. He informed me that I owed the gov't $1,869.73 and that a warrant had been issued for my arrest  He informed me that the warrant could be stopped if I pay the amount owing IMMEDIATELY ! When I asked him how to do this, he told me that I should transfer or deposit the funds into the Rev Can bank account that he would give me ASAP. I told him I would rather pay by cheque and asked for the address to forward my cheque at which point he told me to send it to the head office ;) I asked him if he had my Social Insurance number on screen in front of him and he told me he didn't have access to that information. I pushed him saying that every agent of Rev Can has access and repeat my number to me along with the address to send my cheque.................................. he hung up on me and I haven't heard back, .................................nor have I been arressted lol

I used to get those calls form ''Microsoft'' saying there was a problem with my computer and they needed to fix it so I had to give them control of it ,I took great pleasure in telling him I was really surprised he would have found a problem in my PC because my computer was a Mac...loll,he hang up...

Unfortunately there are many scams like that in the US too. It is also unfortunate that the reason there are so many is because they work! People get scared when they get a call from the IRS, and understandably so. It sounds like Doggy handled it perfectly, but it is not always easy to think that fast. Be careful out there, I think we would all rather give our money to our wonderful SP's than the IRS. It's much more fun to be kissed while we are getting screwed! :)

I had the same call from a girl with an indian or pakistani accent.
I pretended i believed her, she asked me to open my computer, etc.
I told her she had a sexy voice on the voice, she hesitated for a second then continued her speech and instructions i had to follow.
I then told her '' do you mind if i masturbate while i'm talking to you? '' She hung up very quickly !

Too funny Pokerpro!
I remember before the cell phones, years ago ,I know, for the very young here there was a time when nobody had cells lol, scary isn't it?
I was getting reverse charge calls, problem is they were calling saying the name of my SO of the time and it is only because he was sleeping next to me that I refused, thing is I do not know what was the angle here? It is Bell who would have made money, not the scammer?

LOL!

I received the same call, kept him on the phone for an hour, constantly having them repeat what I had to do and making "Mistakes", I even told them I had to take a call and kept them on hold for 15 minutes.

Then when speaking to them I hung up in mid conversation, When they called back I told them they had the wrong number, they called back 2 more times after that insisting. Still denied that they spoke to anyone in the house, told them I only have Mac's

On my cellphone i hardly don't get anything, seem like im not registered much with it, as i barely call anywhere... Mostly text.

On the home phone, i got the "trip to the bahamas" a lot, less recently, but since its a robot i always hang up very fast. Never got one by an actual person.

They kept harassing and calling non-stop, until I explained what was happening when I was able to finally get back to him...

...Just like some hobbyists sensing a B&S on ads & still go for it, we sometimes let our emotion or fear get to us..

So true.

After I told one of my friends my story, he got the same 'Windows Scam" call 2 weeks later and he STILL went through the steps with them! I couldn't believe it & this person is an intelligent person. He said "They sounded so convincing!" (insert facepalm emoji here)
