DiPietro is ready to shine on the bright stage. Don't count these guys out. I like the USA to medal.

How many gold medals had Canada won before the last Olympics, despite having teams that were supposedly much more talented? It is not just talent but teammwork and chemistry and coaching. Go see the movie Miracle about the 1980 Olympic Team. That team was nowhere near as talented as this USA team. And they won gold.

Sorry, but that roster most probably won't win a medal.

You not only have Canada to contend with that roster....try the Czechs, Slovaks (who usually choke), Swedes, Finns and if they can pull some sort of chemistry together, the Russians

Belarus can probably beat the US also :)

Gold Medals

Canada certainly has won more gold medals, but if shorten the timeframe to the last 45 years, the US leads 2 gold's to 1! Then again...neither of our records are very impressive over that period.

ned braden Why go back to 1960 the year the U.S. won their first gold and not 1920 when hockey was first play in the olympic. Shorten it a bit more to 1998 in Nagano when nhl player where allowed to play

I agree with voyageur11 on this one, you either count from the beginning or start at Nagano (with the NHL palyers) - But you can't start at 1960???

Before Nagano EagerBeaver, I don't think Canada was favored in too many Olympic hockey tournements.

A quick word to any hockey fans (Canadian or American) starting December 26 do yourself a favor and try to catch a game or two of the World Junior Hockey Championship - I promise you won't be disappointed. These kids play with everything they have every shift, it's a beautiful game to watch. Team Canada looked good last night in a tune up against the Czechs winning 2-1, the scouting reports have Team USA favored for the gold - Promises to be great stuff!

someone need to do his homework from 1956 to 1998 Canada was never a favorite I remember our national team with their coach Father Bauer and his college kids trying to play against the red army Some of us remember the Canadien junior with Jacques Plante a pro in the goal beating them but not our national team

Voyageur, Spin and Train:

You of course are right. Shortening a time period to achieve results that are in your favor is just a game. Something to make us feel better. Simply put, USA hockey does not compare well historically to Canada. But the gap has closed. I remember very well 1996, sitting at the Molson Center watching game three of the World Cup of Hockey. Canadian fans chanting "It's just a bad dream", as the US walked away with the title.

The main problem with the 06 USA Olympic squad, it that the same forwards from 96 are still leading the team, and they are at least 5 years past their prime...that and they do not have a very hot Mike Richter in net.

The slovaks choke? Who won the last international tournament? The semis are gonna be Canada, the czechs, Sweden and findland!
No one wants to play for the russians, and the US have a pretty sad offence, and goalies that aren't impressive up to now...

Believe me, the USA team will be in the semis. You guys are heaping all of these insults on the USA team, but they are hearing this and they are going to go out there and play with pride and guts. Check back after the tournament is over. This is why they play the games, to determine a champion, based on who wants it the most!

I don't think we're heaping too many insults on Team USA, they have a shot (not a great one but a shot none the less) You have to admit this is not the same team that won the World Cup in 96.

But as far as wanting it the most, I'm not going to say that that Team USA doesn't want to win BUT Team Canada will not be on the short side of wanting it - This is what we live for up here (not a joke or exageration) they will have the entire country watching - trust me every player on Team Canada wants this more than anything.

I can't wait, I've been looking forward to this for 4 years - I would love to see Canada/USA in the Gold Medal Game just like Salt Lake.

yeah but in salt lake city it was kinda differrent: we beat the US in their country!

I know but I'm not really very anti USA when it comes to hockey (just very pro Canada) I like their style of play - Besides in 96 they came up here and beat us so I was trying to avoid the subject

Now if we went down there and beat them in Baseball - That would be something to gloat about :D
