    Canadian GP global tv ratings

The Canadian Grand Prix attracted the third largest global TV audience of any sporting event in 2005, behind only the Super Bowl and the UEFA Champions League final.
I think that this goes to show the promotional value our Grand Prix brings to Montreal on the international stage. It's something to be proud of and I hope it stays here for many years to come. The full story, a short one, is here. http://www.itv-f1.com/News_Article.aspx?PO_ID=34780

But why would it have more viewers than any other F1 race during the year? The only factor I can think of is the different time zones might put it on live European TV during their prime time.

NASCAR has some night races, I assume to also attract the higher primetime TV ratings. Maybe F1 would be wise to consider putting lights around some of their European circuits.

Typical drive home after a night out in Montreal. Nothing special.

Daytona has night racing on both the 2˝ mile oval and the more than 3 mile road course, although that involves sports cars with lights. Lighting a road course like Nurburgring, Monza, or Silverstone well enough for television would be more difficult than an oval, where the light stands can be right beside the track.
