NFL Combine: Browns, Jackson distanced from Manziel

CBSSports.com said:
INDIANAPOLIS -- A dynamic and innovative offense. A suffocating defense. Clearly Cleveland Browns first-year head coach Hue Jackson is thinking big.

It is growing more evident Johnny Manziel is not part of that vision.

"We're going to do everything we can to be innovative. If there's something we can change and do differently, we're going to do it," Jackson said Wednesday at the NFL Combine.

The Browns hold the No. 2 overall pick

"When I think of specifics of what we're looking for – we want high-character football players. We also want to be tough, so we're looking for those types of guys. We'll have some grit. We'll be physically and mentally tough. How fast that's going to happen, I don't have that blueprint."

Jackson said it will be important to draft the best player available, that despite the hole at quarterback that dates to 1999.

North Dakota State's Carson Wentz and Cal's Jared Goff are projected as top-10 picks.

"They're good players," Jackson said. "Everybody knows those two names. We're going to evaluate them just like we do everyone else in this draft."

The Tennessee Titans hold the top pick in the draft and are set at quarterback with 2015 No. 2 overall pick Marcus Mariota. Jackson said the Browns are early in the process evaluating all players, not just quarterbacks.

Jackson said a player with a "small school" background like Wentz will not prevent the franchise from drafting that prospect.

As for whether Manziel would be on the team's roster March 9 at 4:01 p.m. ET, Jackson gave a strong hint to which direction the Browns are leaning.

"I knew that question was coming. We made a statement two weeks ago about Johnny Manziel. I'd like to stand by that. His future on this football team will be addressed. That behavior will not be tolerated as we move forward. The Browns organization is going to take a stand. We're going to move on from those types of situations."

As part of the team's offseason overhaul, with Sashi Brown in the personnel department, Paul DePodesta added as a team president after the Harvard grad made his mark in professional baseball, and Jackson as head coach. The Browns are implementing analytics into player evaluation, but Jackson said that is all part of being innovative.

"The analytics part that everyone is so concerned about, and I'm not, is it's just another tool," Jackson said. "It's not going to be the only thing we use to make decisions."

I don't give Johnny too long before he is gone from the Browns....wonder IF he will end up playing anywhere....
