Most impressive hockey goals!

The first one was nice but Ovechkin's goal yesterday was even more impressive. In fact it might be the best goal I've ever seen. It's much easier to execute a planned trick goal when you are alone with a goalie than having to weave your way thru traffic, fall down with your back to the goal and still manage to score from an almost impossible angle. Granted there was some luck involved but still, that's just sick!

Ovechkin's goal was great - it ranks with classics by Yzerman, Orr, and (wait for it...) Derek Sanderson (before drugs, booze, and sleeping in Central Park got to him).

I completly agree! The one I posted was nice, but it was during a shootout competition... Ovechkin was during the game, one on one with the defenseman, in an NHL game!!! This is why i think he will win the Calder! He never gives up on a play, keeps going and going...

Ovechkin is going to win the Calder...the Capitals are awful. I saw them play at Philly earlier this season, and it was no contest. Crosby may be better in the long run, but he has some talent around him now...Ovechkin has nothing and still has 32 goals and counting. If he doesn't get hurt, he'll get 50 easy.

To be honest I'm very disapointed in Crosby and the entire Penguins team. Crosby is not even in the top 20 goal scorers and with line up that includes Crosby, Lemioux, Pallafy and Recci I expected this team to at least be in playoff cintention.

You are to severe
Crosby is still a kid , He is 18 years old...

For home town nostalgia (for me anyway), Bobby Orr's game-winning goal in overtime in the 1970 Stanley Cup finals which gave the Bruins the win and the series, as they became Stanley Cup Champions.

Ahhh the good ol' days... That I wasn't even alive for...

Crosby is 18, Ovechkin is 20

Guys,

you are being too harsh on Crosby. The guy just turned 18 while Ovechkin is 20. 2 yrs makes an appreciative difference in skill, speed and strength. Give him time, he will be on top of the NHL.

2 things for sure, that Ovechkin goal is probably the most impressive that I have ever seen. The guy is athletic. We are in for a NHL treat for the next 15 years to come with these 2 batteling for the HART trophy and going at it.

Great links, thanks!!!

I got to agree, we are being a bit harsh on him, but after all we've been hearing about him, can you really blame us?
The 2 years difference isn't that big considering that Crosby has been playing in North America his whole life, and Ovechkin in Russia! So it was a much bigger difference for Ovechkin, espacially when you consider that when he arrived he couldnt speak english!!!

As for Crosby not doing as well as he should, I don't think it's all his fault. Ovechkin right now has a better supporting staff. Lemiux, Pallaffy and Ricci have not steped up as leaders. I can understand Lemiux because of his back problems, but is Palaffy and Ricci's excuse? Crosby needs good leaders to guid him and right now he's not getting that.

uhh... Who does Ovechkin have?? Zubrus? Kolzig?? The Capitals are crap and they would be dead last if it wasn't for Ovechkin who is only 4 off the league lead in scoring! Crosby had all the leaders, learned from some of the best, and didn't start off too badly! But sinice Lemieux, Leclair, and now Palffy who retired, he slowed down! Imagine if he would have played with a bad team like Washington? I don't think he would have gotten 1/2 the points Ovechkin has right now!

Another young guy who could be in the Hart Race in the future, and even this year, is Ilya Kovalchuk. Had he signed at the begining of the season, he would have been my first pick... I should have get him anyway... I must admit though that Ovechkin is the most impressive rookie since Selanne. When Crosby will be fully developped, I think he'll be just as good.

That goal and also the one scored by Paul Henderson in the series of the century back in the early '70s, giving Canada the win over the Russians.

Yeah, but 'technically' it was a bush-league goal. He wipes out, smashes into the boards, then bangs it in on the second try in front of the net.

Awesome moment though. What about Gretz' 39th in 50? Was that the bullet that went glove-side top corner? A link to that would be great.
