Definitely. We should all rent a movie such as Platoon or Saving Private Ryan or even Apocalypse Now (which dealt more with the insanity of war than the physical trauma) before holidays like this to appreciate just how horrible combat was. A smaller percentage of people serve in the military in this day and age, and it is easy to forget. Interesting that at one time it was very rare for a U.S. President to have not served in the military. Now it is rare when one of the candidates has served.

Great choice Rusty. I would suggest a few others too.
The Fury- Watch the greatest generation take on Panthers with their Shermin death traps.
Tora! Tora! Tora! - Watch a sneak attack on a military that was not prepared do to cost savings. We had torpedos that did not work and anti-aircraft amunition that were 50% duds.
Saving Private Ryan - Try to imagine what it was like to take Omaha Beach.

Or you could read a book. I would suggest E.B. Sledge's With The Old Breed: Peleliu and Okinawa. This is the greatest battlefield memoir ever written.
