I couldn't care any less about hockey.. but what about his long term promise to donate that huge amount to the childrens hospital? Does he still do it even though he has to move to the u.s now?

That's a awesome trade! Weber is a monster, but I still can believe Nashville agreed to trade him.

It looks like a fair trade. Subban is like a wild stallion, powerfull but unpredictable. As a man I wish him the best! But all this is probably a good move for the team.

Doc was right about Subban. I am still in shock about the trade. My first reaction is I don't like the trade. P.K. Is three years younger. Even though I respect Weber a lot, very good player, he is on the back nine of his career. Hope it works out for both teams. But long term I think Nashville won this trade.

I hate this deal, also Subban beats Weber in every statistical category involving analytical metrics except goals so this makes absolutely no sense, it looks like Bergevin is clearing some cap space for some more moves, I personally do not think that he is done, stay tuned(July 1st).

Did Bergevin tell the kids at Montreal Children's Hospital about this trade?

Subban was and is still a generous guy among other qualities. I'm sure he didn't want to buy anything in giving a lot of money for the kids! But Bergevin is the boss and did the exchange for the team. Subban is just to much playing for himself and not enough for the team. IMHO but I may be wrong... Anyway a great player. But Shea Weber is also a great guy with a great leadership, appreciated by all his team mates. Subban was not so appreciated in the team room, it's not a secret for anybody.

For me it looks like Nashville took a business decision, Montreal a hockey one (at least for the first 3 years, after that, it may be a better trade for nashville because of the age difference).

Subban's flamboyance, and being a amazing black dude, will make him popular in music town. He will rock there and bring up hockey in this city.

Cheers,

It's the other way around. Mtl saved tons of money. First, they save $1.2 million in cap money. And then the salary. Webber had signed a front-loaded contract where a large part of the contract was to be paid early on. He's already pocketed about $50 million of the contract.

Signing PK at a cap-hit of $9 million was unrealistic. The next-highest paid rearguard is Webber at $7.8 million. Way too much of a gap between 1st and 2nd.

Subban's ego,was way too bg for this team. The habs did save money, but now they're stuck with Webber for another 10 years and i doubt very much he'll last the lenght of his contract since he's already started to decline. Playing that many minutes and that many games while playing in the western conference takes its toll on the body.

The ESPN hockey expert essentially felt that the Predators got the best of the deal. He said Weber is a heavy hitting player who will start breaking down. He also said that Subban's skill set meshes perfectly with the way the Predators defensemen corps plays. He also said the Predators' group of defensemen is "top 2 or 3" in the NHL.

Totally agree with you on salary. My answer was more based on if I was the owner of the Nashville team. Yes PK will cost more, but I think he will bring more ppl to the arena, and generaly will get hockey more popular in Nashville, which could only benefit, business wise, the owner of that team.

And my problem with the trade is that weber will be 31 in a month, Subban just turned 27! That is 4 year difference. 4 year is a lot in hockey, don't you think Nashville got the best deal here?

I've been telling everyone for the entire season that PK would ne traded prior to July 1st. No one believed me. But he had to go. I'm almost certain that he was supposed to be traded to Edmonton on at least two occasions. Last friday, had Columbus not drafted Dubois, the habs would have made a trade with Edmonton for their pick. They also had something lined up with Vancouver in case the deal with the Oilers fell through had Dubois still been available.

And next, i'm almost positive they were talking about swapping Subban for Taylor Hall. But Mtl likely wanted more....likely a defenceman plus Hall. Edmonton likely felt it was too much. And what i'm assuming is that today, Mtl refused to budge and told Edmonton the deal was off and they'd be trading him elsewhere. That's whem Edmonton likely made the deal with New Jersey.

Look, Peter Chiarelli got robbed again! He got robbed when he traded #2 overall pick Tyler Seguin to Dallas, and now he got robbed again by trading #1 pick of that same draft Taylor Hall. Adam Larsson? That's it? Wow!

PK Subban

It's being talked about everywhere else, so why not here...

I liked the entertainment value the PK brought to the Bell Centre. If I am paying in the $100s to watch a losing team, I might as well be entertained. PK brought that.

I don't need to mention his commitment and generosity to the community of Montreal. He's a good guy - despite the rumours to the contrary.

I'm disappointed with the Montreal Canadiens organization for engineering a post trade hatchet job on him through their media connections. It was overtly obvious in Tony Marinaro's radio show today on TSN690. He was obviously fed a bunch of talking points, probably in return for future considerations on a breaking story or something. He just wasn't being himself and it showed.

Yeah, I'm disappointed and shocked like a lot of us, but even as time passes and I examine the trade with less emotion, it just doesn't get better. I love the return in Weber, but he's on the decline as anyone who watched the playoffs can attest to. His contract is bad. He makes us bigger, but slower.

It's simply a bad trade and I believe we are going to regret it.

I wish PK nothing but the best, but a bit of the fun in watching the Habs play is now gone for me.

Thoughts.....?

Totally agree with you. Nashville got the best deal. Pretty soon Subban will still rule the ice while singing along with some Nashville bands :) And the owner of that team will collect big time. On the ice here in Montreal if Price is in good shape we could have 2 or maybe 3 good season with Weber but then the trade will just be like all the very bad trades Montreal has taken over the years.... Roy being the worst of the worst, chelios not far behind, lemieux, turgeon... shoud I name more? Ho ya ribeiro which montreal trade for a fucking looser just because ribeiro was a party animal.

Funny that a city so renowned for being quite kinky and the best city in america for escort has a hockey team so fucking straight...

I still say it's a trade that had to be made and the habs likely won the trade short term. But a few years from now? Not so sure.

I still say they should have made the trade with Edmonton instead. What they lack is scoring and Webber isn't an improvement in that category. And Taylor Hall is captain material.

The only reason PK was traded now is because he would have been able to dictate future trade attempts and destinations. His no trade/no movement clause starts today. He was hard to control then, he would have been even more harder to deal with in the future. The trade had to be made now. Look, Nashville fans are also in uproar about the trade and still can't believe the Preds had the audacity to trade Shea Webber for just PK Subban.

Nashville also had the option of implementing Subban's no trade/no movement clause and chose not to grant it to him, fully aware it would piss him off. But David Poile stated he wanted to maintain some type of control over his player.
