A lot has been made about the fact 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick refused to stand up for the American national anthem. Personally, i applaud his reasons to do so. He's got balls and he stands by his principles.

I have also been against playing national anthems at league events. All it does is politicize sporting events when the reason those sporting events exist is solely for personal profit and entertainment. I loved this article written by Jeff Blair this morning:

THE ENDGAME

I’m going to stand – or, in this case, sit – with San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who has rankled many of the lemmings who follow, watch, cover, play in and run the NFL with his decision to not stand for the playing of the American national anthem.

First, I’ve made clear that playing the national anthem before a professional sports event is a sop to faux patriotism — a deliberately exclusive act that lost its meaning years ago. Most of the world gets by without it, only in countries like Canada and the U.S. that haven’t had wars fought on their own soil for a couple of centuries insist on it.

Second, Kaepernick seems to have a handle on his argument. “People of colour have been targeted by police … they are put in place by the government … there’s things we can do to hold them more accountable,” he told reporters Sunday. “You have people that practice law and are lawyers and go to school for eight years, but you can become a cop in six months and don’t have the same amount of training as a cosmologist.”

The remarkable aspect of the coverage of Kaepernick’s stand is the focus on his skills and where he is on his career arc. Talk about missing the point. Unlike NBA players, NFL players do not have guaranteed contracts and their players’ association is nothing more than ownership’s lapdog. For that reason, we in the media ought to be applauding Kaepernick’s courage and his intention to continue to sit for the anthem.

Frankly I find it weak. It had to be explained to know what it's about. If he's going to do this then do it like Tommie Smith and John Carlos did during the 1968 Olympics. Make a gesture that leaves no doubt, is courageous and proud. Black covered fists in the air and head bowed made an iron statement, simple, direct, unmistakable. And it was done with astonishing courage knowing what they would face from critics and haters.

When the team lines up for the anthem step forward show everyone a simple civil but unmistakable gesture that shows everyone you stand by what you are doing. Wave a black flag or something.

The only 6 teams that have a chance to win the Super Bowl

http://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nfl...-the-super-bowl/ss-BBvZW2c?li=BBnb7Kz#image=2

New England Patriots

As long as Tom Brady and Bill Belichick are in New England, the Patriots have a shot to win the Super Bowl each and every year. There’s just no way around it. That notion remains accurate this season despite Brady’s four-game suspension to start the year. The Patriots are currently the favorites to win Super Bowl 51, according to Bovada, and with good reason. New England has one of the league’s best passing offenses, which was only made better this offseason by the additions of Martellus Bennett and Chris Hogan. In a weak AFC East, which is almost guaranteed to be won by New England, the Patriots are essentially a shoo-in to make the playoffs. Upon reaching the postseason, there’s no quarterback or player better than Brady at winning crucial games. And that’s without mentioning their underrated defense, which was second in the NFL with 49 sacks last season. The Patriots are as strong as they’ve ever been despite recent injuries.

Green Bay Packers

The Packers made the playoffs last season, but it wasn’t a typical Aaron Rodgers-led team. Injuries, most notably to Jordy Nelson, and an overweight Eddie Lacy greatly impacted Green Bay’s season. Nelson is back and healthy, and Lacy shed serious weight this offseason as the Packers hope to return to form. And by all means, it looks like they will. Rodgers is still one of the three best quarterbacks, which automatically makes Green Bay a favorite each year. Their defense, however, is what makes the Packers so dangerous. The secondary is loaded with young talent such as Damarious Randall, Ha Ha Clinton-Dix and Quinten Rollins, which is sure to make it difficult for teams to air it out against them. If Green Bay can get a decent pass rush as it did last season (seventh in the NFL in sacks), the Packers could very well be playing for a Super Bowl titl

Seattle Seahawks

The Seahawks are replacing a huge part of their offense this year following Marshawn Lynch’s retirement announcement. He was the heart and soul of the team and played a massive role in their recent run of success. Thomas Rawls, Christine Michael and a bevy of other backs will do their best to replicate Lynch’s production, which is actually more doable than it sounds. The real reason for Seattle being Super Bowl contenders is Russell Wilson, though. The Seahawks go as he goes, and if he can play as well as he did in the second half of last season, they’ll be in good shape. In the final eight games, he threw 25 touchdown passes and just two interceptions with a stellar passer rating of 124.3. Wilson has worked his way into the conversation of being one of the seven best quarterbacks in the game today, and he should only get better this season. Seattle’s biggest obstacle will be winning the NFC West over the Arizona Cardinals.

Pittsburgh Steelers

If the Steelers were to make it to Super Bowl 51, they likely would have overcome more than most teams to do so. Martavis Bryant is suspended for the entire season, and Le’Veon Bell will miss the first three games. These are huge blows to an offense that had the potential to be an all-time great before the bans were handed down. They still have Antonio Brown and Ben Roethlisberger, of course, who will carry the offense. On defense, the Steelers have plenty of inefficiencies. Ryan Shazier has to stay healthy, while rookie Artie Burns needs to contribute right away to shore up the cornerback position. If he doesn’t, the Steelers could be susceptible to the pass, which won’t bode well for their chances of making it to the Super Bowl. At this point, the Steelers’ offense is too good to deny and makes them heavy favorites behind the Patriots in a very week AFC.

Carolina Panthers

The Panthers shocked the world and reached the Super Bowl last year, even after their top receiver Kelvin Benjamin went down with a knee injury. Carolina is no longer an under-the-radar team after winning 15 games last season. Instead, it's among the favorites in the NFC and has a legitimate shot at winning Super Bowl 51. Cam Newton is a true playmaker at quarterback who can beat opposing defenses with his arm or legs. And now with Benjamin back in the fold, he’s going to be even more dangerous. The biggest question surrounding the Panthers is whether they’ll be able to replace Josh Norman in the secondary, along with Roman Harper and Charles Tillman. Carolina’s defense was among the best in football last season, but it will look different this season without Norman in the Cover 2 scheme. The NFC is strong, but the South isn’t. The Panthers should have no trouble reaching the playoffs and making a run at the Super Bowl.

Arizona Cardinals

The Cardinals have won 10, 11, and 13 games the past three seasons, respectively. They’ve improved each year, and while it will be difficult to win 14 games in the NFC West, Arizona should win at least 11. In doing so, the Cardinals would be a lock for the playoffs, and Carson Palmer’s health and arm will be the driving forces behind that. If Palmer can remain healthy for all 16 games, the Cardinals will be in great shape. They have the receivers and running backs to be one of the best offenses in the NFL. And as ludicrous as it sounds, the defense is even better. Chandler Jones brings a much-needed pass rusher on the edge, complementing the stout defensive line, which also welcomes first-round pick Robert Nkemdiche. Tyrann Mathieu is expected to be back in the fold fairly soon, which immediately makes Arizona’s defense much better than it was after he went down last season.

Colin Kaepernick vs Rodney Harrison - this is stupid.

http://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nfl...d-not-know-he-was-black/ar-AAigE2z?li=BBnb7Kz

Okay, my first thought on this silliness is why does he have to be Black anyway.

Harrison criticized Kaepernick yesterday because he said he is not Black. So can't anyone protest a bad thing. Why does someone have to be Black to protest the shooting of Black Americans. Do we all need African pedigrees to have deep empathy. Can't anyone have a sympathetic connection to an atrocity. What's wrong with protesting and not being Black on this issue. Maybe you can feel something deeper if you are the same race but why act like someone has no right if they aren't.

Today Harrison had to change his tune when he was informed Kaepernick is Black. If he hadn't acted like everyone needs some kind of specialized certification on this issue to be legitimately sympathetic about this Rodney would not be looking very silly today. Harrison should be a lot more Maritin Luther King about this and a lot less like Louis Farrakhan when making implications about who has the right to get involved.

Kaepernick is half black and he was adopted by a white family and he lives in a mansion and is guaranteed 11.4 MM$ or something lake that even if he is cut which is likely to happen this weekend.
He has done pretty good living in a white man's world.

Look at the FBI statistics and you consider the amount of crime that young black males commit and then consider the small % of the population that they represent...the numbers are staggering. Why are there no protests when black people kill each other? What color was the guy that just sliced up the two nuns? What color was the guy that kidnapped that young teen white girl Jessica Chambers and burned her alive? His name is Quentin Tellis and guess what color he is?

They commit a shit load of crime and that is why they are stopped by police and imprisoned. Kaepernick and his millions of dollars knows nothing of the Black struggle. He is just a punk bitch that can no longer play football. He is a loner and he does not have the respect of his teammates and coaches and is acting up because he will likely be cut.

Colin Kaepernick is half black and half white, but more importantly he was kind of exposed as not being a good pocket passer. Many of the very athletic quarterbacks who could rush the football didn't develop as pocket passers and current NFL defenses are too fast and too good at containing the rush and you can't be a one trick pony. The defenses can essentially cut off running lanes and force pocket passing decisions, and if the pass rush is good those decisions and reads must come in a very quick series of progressions. In the NFL combine in recent years, they have been timing quarterbacks on how quickly they progress through their reads. The QB who was taken #2 by the Eagles, Wentz, who is a big kid with strong arm and somewhat athletic, had very slow times going through his pocket progressions. This was raised as a big ? on him much like the small hands of Goff, the kid drafted number 1. It will be interesting to me to see how these two kids pan out. Both Mariota and Winston, the top 2 QBs taken last year, have looked very good so far in their NFL careers and barring injury they should become franchise players. I will be interested to see how the top 2 guys from this year do (Goff and Wentz). QB is the most difficult position to play in sports although not nearly as difficult back in the days of Joe Namath when QBs were regularly abused and there was no such thing as roughing the passer penalties and other rules protecting the modern QB from late and vicious hits.

Minnesota Vikings acquire QB Sam Bradford

PHILADELPHIA — Sam Bradford got the trade he wanted months ago — just eight days before the season opener.

The Philadelphia Eagles sent Bradford to the Minnesota Vikings on Saturday for a pair of draft picks. Bradford replaces Teddy Bridgewater, who went down for the season after suffering a gruesome knee injury this week.

The Eagles receive a first-round pick in 2017 and a fourth-round pick in 2018.

Bradford’s departure means backup Chase Daniel will start the season as Philadelphia’s No. 1 quarterback. Carson Wentz, selected with the No. 2 overall pick, missed the last three preseason games after breaking his ribs. McLeod Bethel-Thompson is currently the third quarterback on Philadelphia’s roster.

The Vikings will be turning to Bradford over veteran Shaun Hill once Bradford learns yet another new system. Bradford will now play for his sixth offensive co-ordinator -- Norv Turner -- in seven seasons. A former 2010 No. 1 overall pick, Bradford was acquired from St. Louis by Chip Kelly last year. He had a strong second half in Kelly's up-tempo offence.

Bradford passed up a chance to test free agency and signed a two-year, $36 million with $22 million guaranteed in March. He regretted the decision after the Eagles traded several draft picks to select Wentz, and Bradford skipped some voluntary workouts in the off-season. The Eagles discussed a trade with the Broncos, but couldn't agree to a deal, so Bradford returned and played well in the preseason in new coach Doug Pederson's offence.

Bradford reunites with Pat Shurmur, Minnesota's tight ends coach. Shurmur was Philadelphia's offensive co-ordinator in 2015 and Bradford's OC his rookie season with the Rams.

The Vikings won the NFC North last season and acquiring Bradford means they clearly think they will compete again. The Eagles were 7-9 last season and would've been in rebuilding mode in a division other than the weak NFC East. Trading Bradford allows them to develop Wentz sooner than expected.

Bradford joins Vikings

This is a very good trade for the Vikings!! With their starting QB gone for the season, they had to make a big move in order to appease the fan base. Good move!

Goff Inactive For Game 1

After a very shaky preseason, the Rams have deactivated overall #1 NFL Draft Jared Goff for game 1, whereas overall #2 pick Carson Wentz will start for the Eagles:

http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/17480315/jared-goff-inactive-los-angeles-rams-week-1

With both the Eagles and Cowboys starting rookie QBs with no NFL experiences, things look good for the NY Giants, who at least start a 12 year veteran QB, albeit behind an OL that looked shaky in the preseason.

So how did your team do yesterday? Patriots - No Brady, No Gronkowski, NO PROBLEM.

Roger Goodell and all the haters were happy to see the Patriots without Brady no matter how petty and unjust the methods. Gronkowski out with a hamstring...what a bonus. Up against one of the 6 teams (Cardinals) considered to be real Super Bowl contenders...couldn't be better. You know millions were looking hard at this game on their betting cards too. SOOOOOOOO, raise your hand if you fell in with that group. SORRY folks. Jimmy G and the Patriots put a little damper on your party. Patriots 23 Cardinals 21. Garoppolo was steady with 72.7% complete and a 106.0 Rating. For those who measure a guy by his girl he's also rumored to be going with, and may have proposed to world class super hottie Jelena Noura "Gigi" Hadid.

The Cardinals were considered the toughest game of the season for the Patriots all year, even with Brady it was thought to be their most likely loss.

Meanwhile Goodell goes on:

Buffalo Bills fire offensive coordinator after two games

Once again, the Bills lost a game that they could have won had the offense played better and not kept the defence on the field for most of the game. After losing games against Baltimore and the NY Jets in which the offense was rather anemic for the most part, they fired offensive coordinator Greg Roman and replaced him with the running backs coach.

I have a feeling this will be Rex Ryan's final season in Buffalo after missing the playoffs again. The last time they made the playoffs, Doug Flutie was their starting QB. He had played brilliantly all season long and then in the last game of the season when they rested him against their game against the lousy Indy Colts in which backup (and higher-paid) Rob Johnson had played very well in, they benched Flutie and gave Johnson the start for their playoff game against the Tennessee Titans. The Bills had the game on until the final play of the game, a miraculous kickoff return by the Titans in a game that was later dubbed as "The Music City Miracle". The Bills never played in the playoffs again since that game in 1999. It's the longest playoff drought in any professional sport. Embarrassing!!!!

Wow they haven't played a playoff game since the 20th century. Ouch. Poor Bills fans. They support this franchise with a passion (with some help from Southern Ontario) and the team rewards them year after year by missing the playoffs.

I am watching the Pats-Texans game and the guy who is blocking JJ Watt is getting steamrolled right back into the pocket. It's gotta be pretty scary for a QB facing such a bullrush.

America's Team, THEE Dallas Cowboys won today along with the Bills shutting out those chow-duh heads from Mass. Great weekend of football can become a perfect weekend if the Vikings take care of business monday night versus the Giants.

I like what Dallas is building with Elliott and Prescott at RB/QB and if Dez Bryant can ever stay healthy the future looks bright in Big D

Dallas is a better team without Tony Romo. Right now, they look like a possible playoffs team. Same thing with the Vikings. Maybe Teddy Bridgewater's injury was a blessing-in-disguise.

The Bills have been very impressive these past two games. I had nearly given up on them after the second game. They were all games they could have won, yet found a way to screw everything up.

People today are saying that their defence is playing well, which i agree, but the offense should not be discounted. They've been moving the ball very well over their past 2 games. Next Sunday they're playing the Rams. This should be a good test for them since the Rams have also surprised a lot of people and playing very well. All-Pro Marcel Darius will be back in the lineup for the Bills after serving a 4-game suspension. However, it looks more and more like star receiver Sammy Watkins will be out for the rest of the year since he's likely to undergo foot surgery again.
