Look behind you.
McDavid signed for $750,000.00 less per year so the GEO can have a a few more pennies for other players. $100 mil is enough I guess.

Tatar wants 7-year contract; Wings say no

Restricted free agent Tomas Tatar of the Red Wings wants a 7-year contract while Detroit refuses to offer him anything more than 5 years. They may wind up going to arbitration on a 1-year contract and if so Tatar has indicated this would definitely be the last contract he ever signs with Detroit.

Who will bend first??

Surprised that Doan and Jagr are not picked up, Iginla I expect to see retiring.

Andrew Ference has announced his retirement from hockey at age 38.

In other news, the Carolina Hurricanes are about to be sold for $500 million to a group led by a former Texas Rangers official. The amount paid for the team is surprising considering Forbes magazine recently estimated the Hurricanes' value at $230 million.

But considering Vegas paid $500 million to enter the NHL, it would have made no sense for the league to allow the Hurricanes to be sold for less.

The team is expected to remain in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Sorry Quebec!

I see all three getting signed by September once the teams have a better ideal of how their rosters will look like. Doan may be fussy in regards to where he wants to play. Maybe it's the same situation with Jagr. As for Iginla, i expect him to be the first one signed since he can still play decent hockey and like Doan could be more or less relied on for his leadership and experience. I think all three of those players would look good either with the habs or Oilers.

It's mostly because of the expansion fee charged to the Las Vegas Golden Knights owners which was $500 million.

You can't expect anyone to pay $500 million for an expansion fee for a brand new franchise (with zero players) and then turn around and sell an established team for half that price.....or less than the fee paid for an expansion team.

Tomas Tatar re-signs for 4 years

The four-year deal is worth $5.3 million annually, which matches Tatar’s pre-arbitration ask. (The Red Wings were reportedly offering $4.1 at that time.)

The agreement was made following an arbitration hearing between the club and player, but before any ruling could come down.

Tatar, 26, is coming off a 25-goal season—his third consecutive campaign with more than 20 goals

I also saw the Tatar news earlier but you beat me to the punch. I'm happy with the signing - I wanted him back but not for the 7 years he was requesting.

Average $5.3 mill is, of course, a little high (I'd say a fair figure would be $4.1 mill) but in today's NHL that's the way things go and Tatar is a necessity if the Wings are gonna improve.

Mind you, a bigger necessity is for Mrazek and Nyquist to play the way they're capable of...and not the way they played last season! Two big talents (especially Petr) but they weren't good last year. I just hope the great Henrik Zetterberg can put them both on the right path before he retires, passes "Go", and waltzes into the Hall of Fame.
