Tickets last year and at the begining of this season have been available at a lower price so what happens during the season does have financial effect... and not only on Geof Molson but ask anyone working in a sports bar, etc.
For me however I like hockey and watched them even at their worst last year, and the position that trully matters to me is who lifts the Stanley Cup in june.

What boycott? Bell centre is full. The habs could sell tickets for their morning training! Montreal is completely nuts about the Habs. Which is good.

Yes they have been playing poorly lately but they will be back. They have 5 day off this week. After that I am telling you they will win next 3 in a row and all will be good :)

Cheers,

That team is a total mess right now. I didn't realize they'd miss PK Subban so much. I think that's the problem with Carey Price: he really misses his good buddy. Price said last night after the game that the team had lost its identity. Today everyone is saying that Carey Price IS the team's identity. Maybe he was referring to Subban.

Many believe Michel Therrien will get fired. I don't think he will. Marc Bergevin won't fire him and even gave him an extension after last season's disaster. Then you wonder if both of them may be fired if Bergevin refuses to fire his coach. I also don't believe this will happen. Geoff Molson loves Bergevin too much and truly believes he's one of the league's top GMs. Go figure.

My guess is that a trade will happen soon, but it won't be the type of trade fans are hoping for. Look, even Georges Laraque alluded to this on his 1pm radio show. The habs don't really have any attractive prospects to send to another team (e.g. Colorado, Arizona) for one of their stars. Sure, they have Sergachev in Windsor and draft picks. But as Laraque pointed out, there's no one in St-John's that anyone would really want. He also spoke about watching yesterday's Marlies game on tv and raved about the Marlies team and added that many of the players who played in yesterday's game will one day be playing for the Leafs. He compared this to the habs' farm team and stated there's not even a single player right now whom you could say the same thing about. He also blasted Michael McCarron and called him a first-round pick bust, but that's another matter and he wasn't wrong.

Will the habs trade Pacioretty, Radulov and Galchenyuk?? I really doubt it since there the only players who can score. Will they trade veterans?? Maybe, but the ones they'd like to trade have untradeable contracts. As for Shea Webber, he started the season great and had everyone falling in love with him, but he's regressed badly over the past month or so. He's playing just like he was playing in Nashville last season. His best years are behind him.

Where do i put the blame?? Certainly not on Therrien, who's done miracles with the players he's stuck with. I blame Trevor Timmins and Marc Bergevin. When's the last time the habs skillfully drafted a prized prospect?? Galchenyuk doesn't count since the habs were lucky that year to fall in the 3rd spot at the draft. When he became available in the 3rd spot, they jumped on him, like all other teams would have done (excluding the Islanders). And i blame Marc Bergevin mostly because of the stupid contracts he granted to players like Desharnais and just a year ago to Plekanec. How the hell can you give Plekanec a 2-year contract at $6 million per??? And what about that multi-year contract he granted Andrew Shaw during this past offseason at a $3.9 million cap hit??? Andrew 'fucking' Shaw?? Are you fucking kidding me??? Do you know how much he's being paid this season?? $5.5 million!!!!! Holy fuck!!!!

And say what you want about the Subban deal, it's now starting to look like Nashville won that trade and Subban is still in his prime and much younger than Webber. Do you know how much the habs are paying Shea Webber this season and for the next one?? $12 million a season!!!!!!!!! I can't fucking believe it!!!!!!!!!!

Jeff Petry.....they're currently paying him $7 million a season. Yes, JEFF "FUCKING" PETRY!!!! Alexei Emelin.....$4.2 million and next season he'll get $4.4 million!!! Holy shit!!!!

And once the season ends Galchenyuk will be RFA and he'll expect to receive a big raise. Radulov will be UFA and also expect big $$. And a year later, it'll be Carey Price's turn and he'll demand to be the highest-paid goaltender, whether he deserves it or not. And if the habs don't want to pay him what he wants, he'll walk.

Of course, the wrong guy will wind up losing his job in the long run. And his name is Michel Therrien. It likely won't happen this season, but eventually Bergevin will have to get rid of him if he wants to hang onto his job.

Interesting article but so true, if we starve the money they will start to panic, and give the Habs more:

The NHL's Problem: Only Three Teams Are Making Real Money

https://www.forbes.com/sites/kurtba...jamins-and-who-doesnt-have-them/#3e337234555d

Interesting quote from Forbes Magazine article:

The NHL's problem is the widespread disparity in profits for its 30 teams. We estimated that 18 teams lost money during the 2010-11 season in our annual look at the business of hockey. Several other teams barely eked out a profit, but the league's most flush teams made a killing. The Toronto Maple Leafs, New York Rangers and Montreal Canadiens had an operating profit (in the sense of earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization) of $171 million combined. The other 27 NHL teams lost a collective $44 million. If you add the Vancouver Canucks and Edmonton Oilers to the fat cats ledger, profits hit $212 million with the remaining 25 teams posting a loss of $86 million.

Carey Price, or Pacioretty be or Subban are not the most powerful people in the league, .... we are ! We starve the NHL their heads will turn, because they need a lot of operating income, even 10% drop in revenue in TV advertisments, and ticket sales, will be a giant cog in the wheel, as the whole league basically rests on the profit sharing of 6-7 teams.

...... the whole league basically rests on the profit sharing of 6-7 teams.

I'm sure they left out other teams. I'm sure the Blackhawks and Bruins make a considerable profit. Not sure about the Red Wings, though. They're probably losing money also.

After reading that article, it makes me wonder why Quebec still doesn't have a team. I'm sure most of the other top-revenue teams based in Canada are wondering the same thing since they're practically carrying the league on their shoulders.

I also wonder why Arizona still has a team. What have they done to earn one?? They've become a Mickey Mouse outfit and i doubt this will attract more fans.

I doubt they'll be worse than they were last season. Pretty much the same team. So why didn't you call for a boycott last season?

I've spent the past few days listening to Radio X and it seems panic has already set in all over Montreal in regards to the habs. Only a couple of players have impressed during camp and they all happen to be rookies. Galchenyuk hasn't done anything and looks lost. The defence has fared even worse and they're talking about starting the season with a 19-year defenceman who really should be sent back to his junior team (London Knights) instead of risking to ruin his career if he stays with the big club (like Galchenyuk and so many others who were rushed into the NHL at a young age).

Personally i think they're overblowing things. It's just the preseason after all and veteran players who know they've already made the team rarely put in an effort during preseason since they don't want to risk injury. Can't blame them.

I also believe that the habs won't be any worse than they were last season and once again their success will fall on Carey Price's shoulders.

Saw the Habs play the Devils yesterday at the Bell Centre.
They weren't very impressive, to say the least.
I know they are still in exhibition mode, but it did not look promising.
I sure hope they improve, I don't want my hopes dashed again this year.

Many of the players who played are either on the bubble or there to impress habs management. There's no reason for the lack of effort even if it's just an exhibition game. No wonder coach Julien said afterwards that the players have been making his job easier.

Someone, got hurt by a deflected puck into the stands a couple of rows above me.

There's no reason for this to happen during a hockey game when there are already nets at both ends of the rink. People who come to a game should be paying more attention and stop spending their time texting. Last year i went to a game sitting next to someone who spent the entire game texting and this person kept asking: "What happened? What happened? Who scored?" It was fucking annoying to say the least!

Maybe they should ban cell phones from hockey games. Or at the very least ban texting and require people to put their phones on vibe mode. They should also keep the game's telecast off the scoreboard. Way too many people spend the game watching the scoreboard and when a deflected puck goes into the stands it's too late for them to react if the puck is coming their way....unless they are watching the game like they're supposed to.

I just looked at the Canadiens roster and it is completely fucked up! They have 13 left wings and only 4 right wings on roster at the moment. Can someone please explain when the left wing position became so important that you need 9 extra players at that position than you do at right wing???? WTF????????? Did they add more ice on the left side of the rink in the Bell Centre?

Canadiens roster:

Also I realized that Markov, like an old horse, had to be euthanized, but who will replace his steady play?

Even the Leafs?
They haven't won since 1967, most on this board weren't even born then.
I still remember watching that series with the Canadiens.
I know it was 108 years for the Cubs, but we are talking about the Leafs after all.

The habs haven't won a Cup in nearly 25 years. Good thing for them they won the majority of them during the six-team era or else they wouldn't have much to brag about.

Let's face it: THE HABS ARE AN ABSOLUTE MESS!!!

Other than Price, Weber, Pacioretty and Drouin there ain't much to look forward to on this team. And let's not forget that Price and Weber aren't young pups anymore and their play will slowly start deteriorating as they enter their 30's. Pacioretty is their only proven scorer and i'm not sure he'll still be with the team a couple of years from now. Drouin? Lots of skill and promise but he hasn't accomplished anything yet other than holding out and causing problems in Tampa.

Look behind you.
In the preseason the Habs look like a team to rest at the bottom, I went to a few games in the past, always enjoyed watching them as most other teams. Gonna be a tough year for them unless some sreious trades are done.
