F1 is back and Michael Schumacher has taken the pole in Bahrain with a blistering 1:31 lap where he fended off new teamate Felipe Massa by only hundredths of a second which left Ferrari 1-2 on the Grid! Jenson Button was less than a half second back in 3rd and last years champ Fernando Alonso will start 4th.

For those of you fans who didn't catch qualifying the new format was quite interesting and much more exciting than last year (IMO anyway). The engine changes accompanied by the reintroduction of tire changes during the race should make this an extremely competitive season with a return to more aggressive driving.

7 time world champ Schumacher, like him or not, further cemented himself as one of the all time great drivers of the sport by tying the late Ayrton Senna for all time pole positions with 65 total poles. Amazing! The race will air on Speed Channel tomorrow, check your local listings for the tape delay time. Only 3 months and 14 days til race day in Montreal! Get ready!

now ask yourself, what would have happened if he was in a mclaren, or (ex) sauber, or anyother team...... wouldnt have been even close to the same success he has now.

And for htis race, his rear wing is being disputed as illegal, unfortunately, since ferrari is loved by f1, they turn a blind eye.

Another new rule

For those who may have missed it, the new qualifying format also has another interesting rule on fuel. Whatever the teams had for a fuel load in the cars during their final qualifying run is what they have to start the race with. So, if they ran on light fuel to help with their speed during qualifying they will be pitting early today while those who chose to qualify with more fuel will be able to stay out longer at the start, another interesting twist don't you think? I haven't heard anything other than speculation so far as to how much fuel each team declared in their cars. Guess we'll have to see what develops. Lets just hope for a clean race.

Things to look for today,

1)Kimi working his way from the back of the grid, can he win from the back?
Remember Juan Pablo almost did it last year.

2)Will the Ferraris' be able to hold off the Renaults and Mclarens?

3)How will Rubens do in his first race for Honda?

4)How will Scott Speed, an American  , do in his F1 debut?

5)How bad will Super Aguri be?

6)How many other drivers will Takuma Sato crash into once he is out of contention(which will be immediately after the start of the race)?
