Anyone interested in auctions ?As a consigner or Bidder ?

Hello all

I have met a auctioneer just yesterday in a prestigious Vancouver Downtown Hotel .
I had met the same guy last year in Toronto in the head office of the auction house

I did not consigned last year or this year ,the problem being with the low ball evaluation .
I explain to to him that the high ball fit my expectation but the low ball I couldn't agree .

Anyone having successful experiences to share ?or unsuccessful ?:lol:

Some ladies do ditch bookings for higher bids.

One in Vancouver bragged about it on a board. Maybe more than one.

It would be interesting if an escort agency occasionally used a pricing model like Priceline or Hotwire. But I don't think that would ever happen.

My only experience with auctions is as a bidder on eBay. I have bid on and won a number of relatively inexpensive items there.

I imagine you are interested in auctioning off some of your high-end watch collection? Why not use eBay instead? The commission is much lower and you reach a wider audience than with an auction. You can set a reserve price so you won't get low-balled.

E-Bay might be great for low - end products , but when the product is worth more then the carrier can guarantee and the auctioneer in your example E-Bay you are at risk

I bought a fake TAG on EBay. There is all kinds of counterfeit product there. Fake brand name clothes, even fake Snap On tools.

I would never buy any Rolex through EBay, too worried about getting a fake.

Have a anecdote about a Rolex

A authorized watch dealer ,just not for Rolex ,had a consigned Rolex ,the movement was authentic ,but the casing wasn't ,counterfeiters goes to great extent to fool buyers .

The markers to see counterfeit are not necessarily detectable trough pictures ,since BAit & Switch exist their too !:lol:

In a auction, there are three parties. The buyer, the seller and the parasite. ( auctioneer ) If an item is hard to sell they give it away so they do not have to work hard to sell it. If the item is one of a kind or high demand they try to jack the price up for commission. I have stood facing the audience at actions and seen that sometimes there is just one bidder and they jack the price of the item. They also have shills to stir bidding up. I was at an industrial auction and saw 2 ( separately ) beat up bench vices go up top $80. I am very sure that these pieces of crap were bought by the shills to stir things up. A brand new vice can be had for less than $80 these days.

Sometimes more then 3, but the problems of shills is clearly present in auctions ,
As a consigner ,the portion which is bad is when the auctioneers has made a deal ,with a business associate to buy your consigned item at the low ball evaluation also called reserve ,even if he told you he was very confident selling your rare and valuable item way higher then the high ball evaluation .
Trick or treat .
Actually I see auctioneers more as liquidators ,then sellers of high-end goods ,unless they are auctioning for high- end retailers ,like Rolex ,Patek or Omega that have all to gain with their time piece being oversold

Well that is the result I had ,with high-end products ,they all sold at the low ball evaluation ,or reserve ,which means a loss of$$$$$$$$,
Are those experiences from yourself or third party complaints ?

In the existing auction/liquidation model the auctioneers are vultures that do not have your best interest. Liquidation and actions should be brought into the 21st. century with the internet. Display pics online and set a time for people to bid. Potential bidders should have the opportunity to examine the item in person. Winning bids must post a 20% deposit and have till the next day to pick up the item.
