Hello all, Long time no see...

I, for one, am sick and tired of dishonests remarks criticizing Quebec, the french canadians, la langue française, the OLF, the health system, the education system, etc.. There are no perfect government, no perfect system and no culture superior to another.

I have worked and travelled (and sold sausages) throughout the world, including the States, Ontario, France and Australia, and I can just say that we have a hell of a good quality of life anywhere in this Province. Overall, I am very pleased with the way things are in this Province.

Comments about the superiority of one system, culture or country over another have no place on this Board, IMHO. That's so stupid.

With respect to potholes, something you should keep in mind, it is that we, in Quebec, as a whole, have the harshest climate, besides a few remote places in Siberia, in the Western hemisphere (in terms of temperature extremes, snow precipitations, etc.) and also have the lowest road density/population ratio in the western hemisphere (total length of the road system/total population), that means that it costed a lot to build it and it is osting a lot to maintain it.

I also feel that Quebec is the most beautiful province in Canada. But I'm sure that the residents of BC with the beauty of the Rockies would disagree and so would those living on the east coast. We should all be proud of the place we live. But nowhere else in Canada can rival the beauty of Quebec women.

Now where potholes are concerned, the weather is no excuse. When I cross the Ontario border on the way to Ottawa the roads suddenly become smooth and pleasant to drive on. The weather doesn't change suddenly at the Ontario border and the traffic load is the same on both sides of the border but the people doing the road repairs does change. Our method of road repair seems to be a long term make work project for the companies that do the work.

Yeah, I drove through Montreal on Saturday and noticed that hated sign on the 40: Road work from March to October...happens every year on the 40.

Why I think Quebec is beautiful ...

You can check out the link below for a review I wrote recently on another website ... it's a site where you write your opinion on travel and other services whether it be a specific hotel, a tourist destination, or just a city.

http://www.epinions.com/content_223837720196

I gave Montreal a great review because every single time I've been there it was all-around just a great time. I've travelled to lots of places throughout the US but Montreal was completeley different. Totally different attitude about life. The food, the culture, friendly people - I like it all.

But the one thing that amazed me more than anything (as Techman also pointed out) was that a rather high percentage of Montreal women seem to be absolutely gorgeous! I've brought friends to Montreal who thought I might be exaggerating my claim about the beauty of Quebecoise women. But they all agreed once they experienced the city first hand.

A funny story from when I was up for the Jazz Fest a couple of summers ago (and aren't summers the best for sightseeing the lovely ladies of Montreal?) I was there with a friend from back in NYC (on his first visit to Montreal) and we were sitting at a corner bar with full-height windows. I forget the name of it off-hand but it's the place downstairs from Club Wanda's - right on the corner of Maissoneuve & Rue de la Montagne.

I thought my friend was going to end up with whiplash, or at least a sprained neck - LOL! He couldn't believe it & kept saying that every woman who walked by was more beautiful than the one before. He actually picked up his cell phone to call some guys back home to tell them what they were missing.

Vive les filles de Montreal! ;)

I find the Montreal area (and the rest of Quebec as well) as one of the only cities that I truly feel comfortable visiting, walking around, and overall enjoying. I have found the people friendly, which is unusual in a big city, and the city is relatively clean, and caters to tourists and natives well.
I have visited so many times that I feel that I can blend in very easily, so well that I do not look like a tourist anymore. The best compliments I receive are the ones from natives asking me a question in French. And my French skills are basic at best. :D

Beauty indeed.

The grass just seems greener across the border to me. I love the mountains and foothills and the rolling valleys speckled with farms. The quaint little towns and all the signs being in French so I feel like a stranger in strange beautiful land. I love the fall colors that make Quebec seem ablaze. I also love Montreal. From the view of the modern skyline surrounding me as I take a dip in my downtown hotels rooftop pool, to the old cobblestone streets and little sidestores that give the Old Port its European flavor. And the WOMEN...don't get me started.

About the quality of the roads in Ontario versus Quebec. You have to factor in the fact the Ontario has a much larger population than Quebec. 1/3 of the population of Canada lives in Ontario. This means that they have a bigger budget for road repair and maintenance.

Of course our ladies are our no.1 asset.I've been around and nowhere will you find as many beautiful ladies as in quebec.:p
As for the negatives, well the high income taxes and poor quality of the roads, not to mention health cares that leaves to be desired has to be on top of my list.
Of all the states and provinces in N.A. quebec has the highest tax rates.:(
The many homeless and beggars are another negative aspect.
Am I beign too negative?

I agree! Some just like to whine , seemingly not realizing how good they have it here!

The problem isn't how good it is, it's how good it could be and should be. Considering the extreme taxes we pay here plus the money and businesses lost due to political uncertainty and gov't mismanagement, things should be a lot better. Throw in our insanely large public service and we're very lucky that things are as good as they are. Montreal used to be the financial and business capital of Canada, now it's little more than an also ran. If a company was run the way Quebec and Canada are run, the entire upper management as well as the employees would be fired.

But at least it's kept property values and rents down.:D But they're starting to go up...time for the PQ to come back into power and throw another referendum to get them back down again.:p

The City Unique

I love Quebec, more specifically Montreal. I cannot think of any better place to live. Is it perfect? Hell no. I hate the cold winters, the constant separatist whining and the relative poverty, but I still proudly call this home. Montreal is an amazing city to live in. We are priviledged to live here.

There is one place that matches montreal when it comes to beautiful woman and that is las vegas. I am not saying the women are local but they are in that town by the thousands at all times. As far as hobbying goes there are many beautiful escorts in vegas but they are over priced with a poor attitude and you could get arrested if you ask them to provide gfe services. The ladies who work in the escort business in montreal leave them in the dust when it comes to service.

In a recent interview, Kevin Smith (Silent Bob) commented about how he took a Friday early afternoon flight to Vegas from LA. It was him and a plane full of extremely hot women, and it wasn't until halfway through that he realized it was all the high-end call girls flying out to Vegas to work for the weekend before returning to LA to keep working on their "acting" careers.

I love Canada

I think what you have in Canada is a very unique culture. The best of English and French. No where in the world does this exist where there is an "equality" of culture. I think Canadians both Quebecois and English should see this as a unique culture and embrace it. Let your diversity strengthen you not weaken Canada . Instead of fighting on your differences , who speaks what, embrace that you are the only country that have 2 difference cultures side by side. This uniqueness should be an example for the world to see that people from all walks of life can co-exist.

Well, I think you guys are missing the analysis here. The analysis is this: the Raelians have chosen Quebec as their headquarters, and if Quebec is good enough for Rael, then it has to be good enough for everyone else. End of analysis.:p

There is no need to cut social programs. What is needed is a complete overhaul of the system to eliminate waste and about half of the existing gov't employees. We are over administered. We have three times the number of civil servants of Los Angeles ( or is it California as a whole, I'm not certain) and one third of the population. Something is very wrong here. Government agencies are drastically over administered and inefficient.

It seems that the new super hospitals are going to run about $1 BILLION over budget. Not bad for a project that was supposed to cost $800 Million. Another example of the gov't playing free and easy with our tax dollars for something we really don't need.

Oh well, at least it will cost less than the feds wonderful gun registry.:D

femaleluver2, the problem is that our civil servants have total job security. They are basically hired for life. They cannot be laid off or fired ( unless they kill someone I would assume ). So the only way to downsize is through attrition and it will take a very long time before enough people retire before it makes any difference. There was a story in the news a few months about a highly paid employee who goes to work every day and essentially does nothing as his position has been eliminated but he cannot be terminated. And they mentioned that he was only one of many. I would kill for a gov't job.
