3) Given a choice among Sancerre, Chateauneuf-du-Pape, and Champagne, what would you choose?
While opinions are like assholes, and I've got plenty of both...
The majority of CdP's I've encountered are overrated and overpriced. Some can be very lovely, yes, but it's rare to find a 92+ pointer for less then $40 USD.
Aussie GSM's, if you avoid the fruit bombs, can offer the lushness and exotic hints at half the cost.
Or check mid-range Spanish Tempranillo. Numanthia Termes is one of my favorite QPR leaders; just decant and let it breathe for a while. Can be found in the $25 range for a legit 93 point.
Napa's Pine Ridge makes a lovely, inexpensive Chenin Blanc/Viognier that offers a very different flavor palate then those that are getting bored with the S.Blanc = grapefruit, Chard = butterbomb overoaked tropical fruits, Pinot Gris = absolutely nothing flavor profiles. Available in the states for $10. Solid 90 points without being obnoxiously aggressive.
