Is Artificial Intelligence a threat to humanity ?

AI will do as much harm as it can benefit mankind.

If some idiot brain dead can buy machine gun that can fire 150 shots a minute or more (because mankind is simply too idiot and too money profit minded that let that happen) just imagine what kind of destruction such anti-social wiz kid will be able to do!

AI is here already. The cops are reading your licences plates with optical character recognition to see if you have outstanding tickets or if you have paid for your car registration. It depends how you hook up the AI with mechanical means that will determine the harm.

Nah! It is a powerful technology with some badly chosen name. Just replace “artificial intelligence” with “machine learning” or self-correcting adjustable software and leave all your worries about “protecting human species” behind. It has happened countless time in the history of modern civilization when machine replaced humans in some manual or not creative routine jobs

I think the current threat with ML is automation. It can replace most workers if not all in the long term. What will governments do with huge masses of unemployed people? Universal salary?
The way this manifest itself is quite vicious because we don't see companies firing people to replace them with robots or servers. What you see instead is people leaving and being able to perform the same volume of work with one employee or increasing the volume of work times 2 or 3 and changing technologies to handle the volume with just a few employees.

Just my two cents here but...

The threat is here already. Denial Of Service Attacks on the internet is a form of AI.

Attacks on the net... Computers are programmed by humans.

Threat to humanity: Migration... Most Diseases to humans, animals, vegetation are spread by migration...

Humans always want something that the neighbour possess...
Humans are violent.
Humans created virulent virusses just in case other humans would attack them...

Immigration is good in small amounts... But by the millions, its not migration anymore, its called invasion!

You can mix people, you can mix colours, you can mix ethnics, but mixing religion will always end up developping violence! Just look in the past, id say that probably half the wasr were started by religion to some extent...


Climate warming... Polar ice cap melting but in winter countries send ice breakers up north to open the north passage for ships...

Uh oh, we've gone all philosophical.

I was explaining a friend the other day that we as humans are the sum of all our experiences, good and bad. Even the most insignificant encounter has an impact on our judgment. All the interactions must be taken into account, now how does that compare to a machine who was given a dataset? We would have to release an android among humans to develop a basic sense of human intelligence.

We will know AI is real when it starts being as fed up with Elon Musk as everyone else.

It's tough enough to prevent the use of nuclear bombs, which require the resources of a country. Technology accessible to all such as AI will be impossible to restrict.

Even if, for example, the US manages some measure of control within its own borders, how will you enforce any rules on the Chinese government?
