You are not allowed to grow any? Makes this bill useless

My opinion..even if passed, you wont see this until 2019

And why is the SAQ running the show ? The dispensaries in the USA compete for your business..In Quebec, there is no competition ?
When I travel in the USA , I use Weedmaps to see where the dispensaries are located where I have my Airbnb

https://weedmaps.com/app

It clearly shows you what places are close, and what is " on special " each day.

Just like strip clubs or casinos, dispensaries want you to be loyal, and give them all your business..they do not want you to go down the street to spend your money

That's why there are so many " daily specials " at each location

There's doing it right , and doing it half assed

Quebec is half assed

You can already grow a shitload of weed legally anyways. All you need is the licence...

That is about to change, the government wants to rake in as much as possible and will not allow anyone but their own approved growers where they will get a cut.
This legalization had nothing to do with taking it away from criminals, money, money, money.....for the governments.

I kind of feel like there is a lot of hypocrisy in this. The governments of many states and provinces are always looking for ways to increase tax revenue and marijuana now presents an opportunity to create a legalized monopoly in favor of the government. I don’t know if Quebec has antitrust laws like we do in the USA but at some point there should be legal challenges by marijuana growers who don’t wish to share the pie. Marijuana and prostitution are the Final frontiers for government to seek a cut of cash businessses in order to supplement tax revenues. The day will come when prostitution is legal everywhere or almost everywhere and the impetus will not be changing social morals or values, but governmental greed and desire to expand tax revenues. I feel the same ugly trend is at work here. And this is not to even discuss the tobacco tax in Quebec. Which I learned firsthand when I visited a Cigar Bar with some friends on my last trip. Cigars have become one expensive hobby in Quebec!!!! These so called “sin taxes” have no justification in anything other than the government can get away with it because people need to have it.

The government are the ones providing the licenses. I don't want to get into too many details but with some money everything is possible... It's not even hard to get the license as long as you have good contacts. They wont provide an unlimited amount of licenses of course but.. Well, let me and this post with "but". ;)

I do not see prostitution ever being legalized in the US. Religion is too embedded in their culture and government. There are far too many right-wing conservatives. They see tradition and theocracy above all else. Have you not noticed how businesses are so unregulated yet prostitution is illegal. Seems like a kind of a hypocrisy since prostitution is capitalism and is part of free markets.

Cloud 500 it's only like that in the Bible Belt. You are not an American and have not lived here. We are a big country and although there are swaths of the nation where religion is embedded in culture and government it is not true throughout the country.

Leave it to Cloud to bring up the "old evil right wing conservatives." There are plenty of liberals that are adamantly opposed to prostitution too.

That is now, I am pretty sure that after July 2018 all will change. The governments want to get as much as possible from this, not letting us grow our own 4 plants as proposed by the feds is a good indication.

We needed decriminalization not legalization.

Now that the government has put their legalese into it, we are definitely f**ked...

Alberta laid out their laws. Must be 18, if under 18 and a small amount your parents will be called, larger amount and criminal charges, must be sold in a store that sells weed and weed supplies only, you can grow up to 4 plants in a house, private selling licenses will be available, you can have up to 30 grams on you and as much as you want at home, where you can smoke is the same as cigarette and vaping laws. Sounds far better for the consumer that Quebec's plan.

Gambling, Tobacco, Alcohol, now Marijuana, and soon perhaps, the Big Daddy, Prostitution. They are just trying to think of a way where they can rake in the cash from the sex trade. They will probably come out with a policy under the guise of "Public Safety".

You can't really compare pot with sex work. Growing weed will be illegal whether you sell it or not. Sex between consenting adults is not controlled and requires no resources to produce. Sex is only ''problematic'' when exchanged for money which is much harder to control than drug production. Even in countries where it is legalized, a lot of sex work is simply done outside the legal system.

The easiest way is to set up a vending machine section in the SAQ. The purchase cards would be purchased in person at the cash register. That way there will be no complaints of getting a low count.

The thing to not let people grow there own pot in peace, or without maybe a paying licence just show how "money" is an important target in that particular situation.

In the case of pot I don't think money is the only issue. There are still a lot of voters afraid of pot and I think the government wants to put these people at ease. It's a newly legalized substance and they don't want to let everyone do whatever they want. Eventually, I guess they will probably allow to grow small amounts when pot becomes more normal.

Really, more normal? The main reson Trudeau won is because of the pot legalization of weed ( other then the fact he lied about most of his campaign promises ). Everyone knows about weed, if they do not they live a very sheltered life. This is a money grab and nothing else, anything to make their deficit look better.
The US cities that legalized weed put a lot into health and education and to assist in keeping income tax low, that will not happen here, they will celebrate and give themselves a raise while they rIse our taxes again.

In the news today, ( Montreal Gazette so not western propaganda )
The Quebec government will cap the THC content to 18% for those 21 and over and 8% for those 18 to 21. What I get tops out at 32% and can not see myself paying top dollar for 18% weed, the quality is Quebec is far lower than BC bud but 18% is very low. Add the no grow at home and a total fail about to happen here.
The local dealers must be happy with this announcement.

It is all about taxes, no grow at home is to stop people from being mini pot growers for profit.

It it so people have to buy from the government and not supply their own, tax grab and nothing else. You can make your own brew, why not be able to grow.
