Funny the discussion is going this way, because the facts are simple. Parents have a large family very large, so no birth control. The kids were home “schooled”. The parents made multiple trips to Las Vegas to renew their vows.
The diagnosis is simple this is a case of religious mania in two psychotic individuals.
They are not evil, they are not simple or stupid, this is not the devil at work. This is religious mania that’s all. This is unfortunately very frequent to varying degrees. This is an extreme case. But probably not isolated, I shutter to think how many kids are in similar situations... probably thousands scattered all across the us.

You really think there is a God? Would a God allow massive droughts, floods, Justine Trudeau to be born?
Thousands of people are slaughtered daily around the world and it is not news worthy. Something where a justice system is involved can not be counted on to make things right, sometimes it is necessary to put a bad dog down.
I just saw this story on the news tonight. That people can do this to children is unthinkable. These kids will be messed up for the rest of their lives
Atheism is getting more and more stronger every year, churches are seeing less and less people. Someday people will see the light and figure out there are no Gods, someone misread the bible the writer was dyslexic and was talking about his dog, nothing more. I also have seen evil shit and I was not in the military, just real fucked up stuff with everyday people.
Every few years you get one of these cases, years ago there was this guy that kidnapped a neighbor girl and kept her in his bomb shelter.
Imagine if you were in a religion that allowed 3 wives and had 5 kids with each wife, 15 kids at round it to $500 a month each.. $7,500.00
Add welfare checks and you hit the jackpot.
Heinnnn? But in spite of allocations we still have a very low birth rate among quebecers. Less than 2 per female. So it doesn’t work. The only thing that keeps birth rates up, is a strict religious strong hold, uneducated population and poverty. So let’s go back to that.
Not entirely true. Or your are missing one important factor. It was also when one salary was enough to live on.

People that have only one or two kids do so because of the cost, I have two sets of relatives in Quebec and they have no kids because they figure they could not properly supply a good life for them. Friends at work are stopping at one or two due to costs and costs only. When 53% of your wages go to some sort of tax, housing is too expensive, food had gone up sharply, insurance is always going up, business uncertainty..... Not the ideal conditions for a large family.
If I had no kids I would be retired living in the Caymans somewhere.
Unless you pump out 5 plus kids and get $500 a pop for each and then also extra free stuff... Then life is grand. Too bad the workers with 1 or 2 kids pays for the free stuff.

500 for 5 kids equals 2500 per month. That is not that much given that you need to feed, clothe, entertain (PlayStation, iphones...), birthday parties, sporting activities, daycares, allowance..etc for each child. That 2.5K/month may not even last the entire month.
