It's different Sam. Hockey Canada asked the local french announcer (the Olympics has 2 officials language, English and French) to pronounce french names with an English accent on purpose. The announcer rightfully so refused.

The announcer takes it as his duty to ask someone how to say his name... But Hockey Canada does not care. They just ordered, without any form of respect, to say every name with an english accent...

By the way... French is the official language of the Olympics. Just ask Baron Pierre de Coubertin.

Did you guys even read about this? The request was for three players in particular. Rene Bourque and Derek Roy both themselves pronounce and ask for their names the English way. As for the third player, Marc-André Gragnani, his last name is actually latin and he pronounces it the latin way (the second g is silent). By the way, Rene Bourque is an Anglophone from Lake La Biche, Alberta. Derek Roy is a Franco-Ontarian from Rockland, Ontario. I don't know if Gragnani is Francophone or Anglophone but he's from Montreal.

Also, Maxim Lapierre, Kevin Poulin, and Maxim Noreau (all Francophones from Quebec) have their names pronounced in French.

Hockey Canada has supposedly asked the players how they want to be called.

This is just people making a mountain out of a molehill and trying to make this political. I am so disappointed with all the language bullshit in this country sometimes...
