Looks like we lost an advertising spot...
Backpage seems to have been seized by the FBI a few minutes ago.

RIP !

Maria , huge FBI sign when you try to go in. Some sections are still accessible but slowly being removed.

Hum i don't know how to react to this... i used to browse backpage for fun (never booked from there) , if only to see if any girl i liked returned and put an add there or stuff like that. Sometimes just trying to guess who is real, who is fake.

I now its bad for providers tough... lots counted on this for there advertisements.

But honestly is it really bad? I mean it is in term of "its LE getting territory wich is not good" but the pure result of it may mean "less bullshit fake ads" ... Maybe merb will see a boom of new advertisers. I don't think merb will be touch by any american laws as the website is hosted elsewhere and do not aim at the states...

I don't know what Law Enforcement is thinking these days. There are so many shootings all over the US that kill hundreds of people, so many robberies, so much violence. And they spend their resources, time, energy and efforts closing advertising sites! Somehow someone must reorder their priorities!

That or they are lazy. You must admit that closing a good old website is way easier and much less dangerous then running after the bad guys.

(I guess Im in a bitchy mood today... sorry about that guys...)

Yes, it's very easy for LE to pick soft targets. Definitely they have fucked up priorities. Also Trump is a personal connoiseur of porn and porn starlets and pays for sex, so on his watch they should be the last targets.

That sucks. That ain't fixing any issues, just moving it somewhere else. Maybe somewhere harder for law enforcement to monitor.

interesting development...what percentage of ads contained exploited woman/girls I wonder. is it 0.01%, 0.1%, 1%, 10% ?? If it is 10% I can understand the action. if it is closer to 0.01%, than as usual the good majority pay the price for the asshole minority

Enforcing moral behavior with strict rules are more important then going after real criminals. (Being sarcastic)

Thanks to the conservatives removal of net neutrality which was the end of freedom of expression on the internet, SESTA was the next step. Another conservative legacy. I would be very concerned if the conservatives gain power in Canada they might follow the lead of the US.

Well there might be a big problem and it might come to Canada also if the conservatives win in the next election. Scheer who is a bible fanatic might very well follow the lead of the US.

The actual percentage never mattered. "Human Trafficking" has been the PR buzzword whenever there's a series of busts, often of very adult women who have been doing this for quite some time voluntarily. The same argument was used to shut down gay men's sites too. https://www.theatlantic.com/politic...orts-gets-busted-by-homeland-security/402343/

The main reason is that some people want to make it harder for sexual prostitution to exist. It doesn't matter whether or not the people are willing and happy to do the work. As for the claims of concern about safety - if that were the case then they'd shut down boxing, mixed martial arts, and football. All of these have high likelihoods of seriously harming the participants. It's about the sex. Sex is bad if it doesn't typically lead to a nice family unit.
