That sux! Wonder if he had a chronic medical condition. Some of these guys u see on TV, it’s shocking to see they suffer from
depression.

Man... Loved his personality and yes he seemed to really enjoy life and food and was able to communicate that passion so well without any snobbery... Very sad.

The fact he came to Montreal and liked a few places was cool too.

Don't know if you got it right... Didn't see that show but as far as I know, Luc Picard is an actor, the two Joe Beef chefs are David McMillan and Frédéric Morin.
Maybe the Picard you ment is Martin Picard the big guy from le Pied de Cochon on Duluth.

So sad... Hooked by that guy since I read Kitchen Confidentials many years ago.

Last episode I saw of his show was when he went to virginia rural side to try to understand their gun culture... Did not convince me that owning a gun should be allowed but he did brought some kind of regular humanity in those red neck. That was his magic! ;)

It seems only the good guy/girl go...

Who knows
Rather shell shocked here. Really sad to hear of anthony’s Passing, for whatever reason. He was passionate and critical. Was an essentially no bullshit kind of guy and a guy’s guy

I wanted to see him eat another beating cobra’s heart.

Sad news indeed...
An intelligent, eloquent and most importantly a kind human being is what I’m told from people that actually met him and knew him best.It breaks my heart that he is gone so soon and I’m so sad for his daughter , his family and all his friends (here in Montreal and elsewhere) who loved him.
RIP Tony. I hope your in peace

Given what you said above, beyond the sadness I always find myself feeling also a sense of anger at how someone can take their own life when so many are dependent on them...family (poor young daughter), friends , colleagues, employees. All these peoples lives have been totally turned upside down. Having said that, as many most likely on this board I have been there at some point and there is one word that can basically sum it up in my opinion and that is PAIN! Could be physical could be emotional, but at some point the PAIN just becomes unbearable and you will just do anything for it to stop...including the ultimate act, unfortunately.

It should also be noted that he was one of the finest chefs to come out of New York City. He was a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America (CIA) and worked as a chef in NYC for 20 years before writing Kitchen Confidential.

Kitchen Confidential was given to me as a gift from a friend around 2 years ago and has sat in my library waiting to be read since then. Now I will be reading it with a sad heart.

Ho men you missed out. It's an amazing book. I had not read anything that was so raw, so perfect since 20 years ago when I read Papillon.

He truly had it all. Good look, humor and humility.

Cheers,

Wow. So shocking. He seemingly had it all: Money, fame, a fabulous career, gorgeous girlfriend, family...
You don't know what you don't know, about anyone.
Was it uncontrolled depression that made him take his own life? It makes me stop and appreciate the life I have now...

We may never know what haunted him. Could it be his divorce, the wear of constant travel or perhaps the rumors that his girlfriend was with someone else in Rome. Whatever it was, it doesn't necessarily have to make sense to us.

I have to say he didn't seem as enthusiastic this season as previous seasons.

Great guy. Was not a regular of the show, but every time I started watching I became riveted to my couch. Very sad.

He seemingly had it all: ..

One thing very important that he was missing was religion or at least a spiritual belief.
You would think that with his background and life`s experience he would be at least a spiritual person.

His mother was Jewish yet he had never set foot in a synagogue. He had no religion and did not believe in a higher power.

I believe that religion, any religion, will make you think twice about suicide. BTW I`m agnostic so who am I to preach.....But I do believe that suicide may mess up your next phase in life or after-life.

you're right it was Dave McMillan and Fred Morin from joe beef... missed the begining of the episode, then got the name wrong :) I just read that he did a whole other episode with them about quebec...bourdain helped put quebec on the culinary map
