    On turning 50

    I turned 50 25 mins ago.
Aside from my mongering talents, I do some writing.

    EVE OF 50

    Ten to fifty, and
    from out of nowhere
    a High School sweetheart calls
    to say hello;
    to wish me happy birthday.

    We talked of being 17
    I played football, she was
    a cheerleader.
    We dry humped
    under the bleachers
    on Friday nights.

    Til finally
    one night
    after a game
    we got naked
    and fumbled.
    I was too fast
    and made a mess.
    We never spoke of it
    again.

    She married well.
    I married again and
    again.

    She called to say hello,
    to say happy birthday
to say it didn’t get much better
    than under the bleachers.

they will forget what you did,
but they will never forget the way you made them feel.

Happy birthday and welcome to the 50+ club!

    I'd like to paraphase Ronnie:

She may forget what you said, she may forget what you did, but she will never forget the way you make her feel.

I said to a friend of mine on turning 50, "I feel like a 25-year old". His response, "I feel like a 25-year old too, but at 8 in the morning where are you going to get a 25-year old?"

    Happy Birthday.

    M 565,

I still have a ways to go to get to 50, but here's wishing you a good second 50!

I feel like a 50 year old myself but certainly would prefer two 25 year olds. Congrats on making 1/2 a century, I'm not far behind. Just remember, it's not the years in your life but the life in your years that count.

Thanks to you all for your kind words and birthday wishes.

I'm not prone to melancholy but getting that call after all these years....well, you know, I just got a bit introspective and had to write it down.

I'll be up in Montreal June 20 and 21 so keep an eye out for posts of a different nature.

Happy Birthday from a fellow New Jerseyan!

MOONEY: Sergeant, I swear! Flying! With a big red cape! And bright red boots as well! Then, quick as a wink - he was gone! Flew up in the air again, he did. Like a big blue bird!
SERGEANT: Like a big blue bird....with bright red boots! Why don't you take the rest of the night off now, Mooney. Go back to Murphy's bar and finish what you plainly started. I'll be off myself in a bit and join ya there...
