Vontae Davis Retires at Halftime of Bills-Chargers Game

Vontae Davis elected to retire at halftime of Bills-Chargers game:

http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/...is-abruptly-retires-football-half-vs-chargers

Clearly the Bills are not going anywhere with the team they have, but Davis's reasons for quitting are not clear. Interestingly, the Bills trailed 28-6 at half and head coach McDermott assumed the defensive playcalling duties in the second half, which tells me there was a big problem with defensive coaching in the first half.

That’s pretty weak. I’ve never seen anything like that across any professional sports. He’s essentially quitting in the middle of a game. It shows total lack of respect for his teammates, and coaches. I don’t know whether he’s got kids but his behavior sets a lousy example of how unprofessional it is to start a job and quitting in the middle of it. Just wondering - does he get half a paycheck in this instance??

Pat Mahomes is the real deal

The story in the NFL this year is going to be Patrick Mahomes, the new kid QB for the KC Chiefs. You heard it here first on MERB, lol!! He burned the Steelers in Pittsburgh for 6 TDs. Not even Brady in his long illustrious career has accomplished that. Through two games, Mahomes has already thrown for 10 TDs. That’s incredible. He’s a phenom and his throws span the whole repertoire: touch passes, bullet precision passes, deep throws, throwing on the run. He’s also got a cannon arm having pitched in college and drafted by pro teams. While the season is still young, I don’t think he’s a flash in the pan. IMHO, this guy’s got superstar written all over him.

Talking of Brady.....Patriots lost 31-20 vs Jags......in a rematch of last season's AFC championship game.

Well consolation for Bill's owner,,,his daughter Jessica Pegula was playing tennis-WTA---- yesterday in final here in Québec city tournament....and she lost but played well all week long.

Maroon 5 to play the Super bowl halftime show, since when did 16 yr old girls become the majority NFL watchers. Just my opinion but something along the lines of Metallica, Greta Van Fleet, Foo Fighters, Myles Kennedy would be Super bowl worthy. Maroon 5 would be for a fashion show or if you are 16 on a date.

I would say it's time to bring back Bruce Springsteen. The boss who represent american so well. Oups he is a Trump hater... Wont work! They need vanilla band like Maroon 5 to make sure it makes no splash.

Cheers,

The NFL is losing revenue every year for the past few, trying to attract the Maroon 5 group will have a bigger loss than gain. If I was an advertiser I would not pay for a halftime slot because the majority would be getting beer, making food, outside smoking a joint, for sure not glued to the TV watching Maroon 5. As stated above, Springsteen would have been an excellent choice, Kenny Wayne Shepherd also. Fuck, a giant jello wrestling pit with Victoria Secret girls would be fantastic.

Of all the Superbowl halftime shows i've seen the one with Bruce Springsteen is probably the one i enjoyed the most. Other notables among my favorites were U2, the late Prince & Michael Jackson shows.

AC/DC and Guns n' Roses would also be high on my list for possible future Superbowl shows but that's extremely unlikely to happen.

STN felt it right. There is already an uproar on the internet over the rumour of Marron 5.

Outcast would have been much more entertaining and they are a local band.

The NFL is interested in the younger fans. They already have guys over age 40 as fans so Springsteen, AC/DC, Guns and Roses are not happening. They are interested in the younger fan demographic. Maroon 5 is pop band and may have some appeal to the viewer dynamic they are seeking but even for that dynamic there are better choices. I am kind of surprised Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande have not been invited together a la Justin Timberlake and Janet Jackson 15 years ago. I think Bieber/Grande would be a good choice for what they want. They could get them to both sing each other’s songs. Bieber is a bad boy and brat but I actually liked his most recent album. Grande is hot and she has a dynamic voice. These two should be brought together for a fun concert.

^^^^^^ It is the over 30 that are leaving, Beiber and Arienna Grande fans do not like football, do not care and having them at halftime will not make them fans. Country rock, country, metal, rock fans... Those are the ones they shoud try to get. We have young kids at work, no interest in sports, do not even know hockey is starting FFS.

I just want to document the time I agreed wholeheartedly with STN. Absolute nonsense choice. Then again, I'm having a hard time thinking of a good artist that will span the appetites of bread-and-butter NFL fans and the casual people who tune in for the Super Bowl halftime show. Music isn't what it used to be. We'll probably never have legacy artists with long, solid careers like Michael Jackson and Prince again.

This season looks like it's gonna be a good one. The Pats getting clowned, Cleveland finally winning a game and people jumping on early bandwagons (Fitzpatrick, Mahomes etc) and we're only in week 3.

No jumping on the bandwagon with Mahomes:

he's a great athlete with all the skills...
he's from Texas, where they breed QB's like steers...
he was a terrific QB with Texas Tech...
...and with the trust & confidence from KC coaches and management to run the offence he will be a great QB for the Chiefs!
