Some new Mayor jumped in the race this week?

I give up. Wake me when they pick the debate field.

Mayor Pete? I think he should be called Mayor Booty here (his name is Buttigieg).

He can sound fairly sensible. I think he might be more moderate than many of the other candidates. Perhaps that's the Democratic primary lane that needs more activity, but I'm guessing a small city mayor doesn't have the national prominence to have a chance. I also know he's gay and that's intriguing. I have no problem voting for a gay candidate, but many Republicans and a few Democrats probably do.

No, not Buttegieg, another one. I've liked what I have seen of Mayor Pete so far. I remain dubious about jumping from small city Mayor to President, but so far he has been fine. I can't think of any of the primary candidates who have disqualified themselves in my eyes so far.

Believe it or not, I can be very open to hearing various candidates' viewpoints. I find Beto a bit ostentatious. I don't know if he has a chance of winning the primaries, but at some point I think he needs to deliver policy messages with more authenticity and less theater. More steak and a bit less sizzle.......in my humble opinion, IMHO as they used to say.

If Corey Booker could promise us Rosario Dawson would be the First Lady, he might have my vote.

Fair comment on Booker.

As for Beto, I agree. He has been more sizzle than steak so far. Mind you, we are more than a year out. The debate in a couple of months will be interesting.

How many people drop out in the month or so after the first debate? At some point the field will have to shrink.

His opening Video is good. I don't know if "I am here to fight Trump" is the best approach, but it seems to be what he wants to go with. He is definitely playing on the "we go back to what things were like when Obama and I were in charge" nostalgia.

Like I said elsewhere, if that's all he's got, he is going to flame out quickly. There are too many people putting real policy up for him to cruise on that for a whole year. I don't think he has another gear, but he may surprise me.
