Banlieues de Métropolis
Autoroute 15 to the border. Continue on I-87.
I-87 south to the Garden State Parkway in NJ.
GS Parkway to exit 129 - NJ Turnpike/I-95.
Take I-95 all the way to DC.

But I would confirm on Google maps.

Hey, I'm in the DC area! Always fly to Montreal, though.

Lemme know if you need any info from a local. :)

Do you need local directions, what to do, other info, etc.?

I hate taking the 95, so I go south on I-81 from Binghamton, NY until I reach Harrisburg, Pa., from which I take the 15 until it reaches the 270. The route is only slightly longer, but it's scenic, less stressful, and more pleasant.

As much as possible, stay away from I-495, the DC Beltway, especially where it meets with I-270. That part of 495 is ALWAYS backed up.

My destination in DC is in the Reagan National airport area. I plan to stay at a hotel between Baltimore and DC the night before since it's cheaper accommodations - I think near this town called Laurel. It shouldn't take me that long to get to DC from Laurel during a Saturday morning would it?

How long do you figure is the trip from Montreal to DC via the I-87/I-95 route through NY/Philly/Baltimore compared to the I-81/270 route?

Depending on where your Montreal departure point is(west or east of Decarie) you have to consider the following:

1.)west of Decarie less traffic if you take the 40/401 to the parkway(near the casino) before Kingston cross at Hill Island and take the 81 south to the
83 (the 270 is too far south and west of Harrisburg). Before Baltimore you will see signs that will allow you to skirt Baltimore to the west and down to
Washington.

2.)east of Decarie less traffic if you take the 15 from the Champlain bridge to the 87 down to Albany. At Albany take the 90 west for two or three exits
the 88 which you take to the 81 at Binghamton then down to the
Harrisburg area where you can take the 83(the 270 is too far south and west of Harrisburg) before Baltimore you will see signs that will allow you to skirt Baltimore to the west and down to Washington.

3.)taking the 87 down to the 287 the picking up the 95 southbound about 10
exits north of Philly creates the following problems. You risk being caught in serious traffic at the bridge crossing NJ into PA(Philadelphia) and serious traffic at the bridge and tunnel around Baltimore. If you plan to stay in a hotel/motel overnight before Washington they are much cheaper on the backside coming in from the 83 than on the 95.The closer you are to
Harrisburgh the cheaper the typical rate.At most rest areas or tourist info
stops you can find a northeast motel /hotel discount magazine about 80+
pages of discount coupons.

4.)if you are going to Washington to catch a Nationals game the 88 goes
past Cooperstown and the Baseball Hall of Fame.

As for travelling time - hard to say since you do not mention where you will be leaving from, when or your driving habits but from the greater Montreal are either way about nine hours road time.

Have a safe trip.

On a Saturday morning with no traffic, I estimate that it should take a little less than an hour to get from Laurel to DC.

Take either 95 S or 295 S to 495 S. Stay on 495, crossing the Woodrow Wilson bridge from Maryland to Virginia. Now be careful here. The Woodrow Wilson has just been replaced with brand new bridges, so traffic patterns may be different from any maps you have. Regardless, after the bridge, take the exit for Route 1 N, which will take you through Alexandria, and to the Reagan National Airport/Crystal City area. There should also be signs for Reagan National as soon as you cross the bridge.

While in Crystal City area, I recommend the Crystal City Restaurant. Despite its name, it's actually a strip joint, the only one in the area. Nudity, topless, and lapdances are all illegal in Virginia (which has the strictest SC laws in the country), so the dancers wear pasties. But they had some hot dancers when I was there.

Yeah, if you're looking for cheaper hotel rates, you pretty much have to stay in suburban Maryland. The disadvantage of this is that it will usually take up to an hour to commute to DC with traffic and finding parking, etc. In Maryland, though, you wont have to pay for parking. And Maryland's strip joint laws are more lenient. :D I recommend the Showcase Theater in Beltsville, MD.

I don't recommend hobbying though. Maryland/DC used to be great for hobbying; I know some awesome SPs and agencies. But inevitably, LE is investigating and cracking down, with more busts now than before.

I thought they were closing? I was invited to a Grand closing party there!? JB - are they still open?

It takes me about 12 hours to drive to DC from Montreal and I do it quite often. Ideally leave here in the evening, that way traffic is a lot less problematic... have a safe trip!

Coming from West Island

Well, I will be leaving Montreal from the west island area and I have to drop off my dogs in Vaudrieul anyway so maybe the 40-401 route does seem better. I was worried about the traffic around NY and Philly areas so perhaps I will look into the 81-83 route.

I have been to the SJ near Reagan years ago. I won't be going this time as I have time only for an event at the Crystal City Marriott. Is that area safe to park my car in the streets or should I park at the Marriott itself where my event is?

I would just park my car at the Greenbelt Metro station and take the Metro to the Crystal City stop. When you exit the Metro at the Crystal City station, you are right at the Crystal City Marriott.

Here are some maps and guide to the DC Metro: http://www.stationmasters.com/System_Map/CRYSTALC/crystalc.html
http://www.wmata.com/tripplanner/maps.cfm

It should cost you cheaper to park at the Greenbelt metro and it will be less hassle than driving into DC and trying to find parking. Parking at the Marriott will no doubt be expensive.

If you do park in Crystal City, that area isn't too bad; just stay away from SE and parts of NE DC.

In the large American cities - Atlanta,Chicago being prime examples,it is often safer to park at a major hotel and take a free hotel shuttle to the subway or airport. In Washington the subway is user friendly and safe.

Also you may ask your insurer for advice.

Two ways. Both are good.

Drive to Thousand Islands, ON andcross into NY state. The drive to Washington will take you through Syracuse, NY & Harrisburg PA.
Not crowded.
(this route is a Florida/Montreal favourite)

Drive to Champlain/Lacolle crossing into NY state.
The drive will take you though the Adirondak mountains, Albany, the Catskill mountains, west of NY city and west of Baltimore.

I don't know. I haven't been there in awhile. But according to Strip Club List and the club's website, they're still open and they even have current schedules for dancers and waitresses.

That is a great idea! Looking at their website, it appears that parking is free during weekends and there is a reduced fare too during Saturdays.

Metro is DC is amazingly clean - though please remember - no food or drinks while in the station... you'll get a great big fine if you forget (been there, done that!!)

You MIGHT need to buy a SmartTrip card (RFID payment card) at the Greenbelt Metro, especially if you're parking there during business hours. All metro stations with parking lots should have them for sale at vending machines. But I'm pretty sure that the Greenbelt Metro just leaves the parking lot open (gates permanently positioned up) on weekends.

Parking in Crystal City Area

Actually, I might have too much luggage to carry around the subway so I'll probably have to drive right into the Crystal City area. Besides the hotel, what's the other parking there like? Are there meters (need to pay on Saturdays?)?
