What's the best line you've heard?

How's this one? A dancer I was seeing for awhile told me her grandmother was sick so we couldn't get together. Then her grandmother was in the hospital and "can I borrow some money for a bus ticket to go see her in Ottawa?" This came up for a number of times until she had to go to Ottawa for a funeral as her grandmother had died, so...borrow money for flowers.

About a year and a half later when our relationship had become a regular bf/gf one I went to Ottawa with her for a family get together where I met...you guessed it, her grandmother. Both of them. When I mentioned that I thought her grandmother had died over a year ago she turned all shades of purple and red not knowing what to say. I can't remember what her explanation was but I must have bought it as we stayed together for another couple of years and are still friends to this day, 20 years later.
