These places along St. Catherines that exchange currency, Will they accept $50 and $100 american bills or do they require smaller denominations such as $20's?

Coming to Montreal next week and don't want to not be able to exchange funds. Thanks for your help.

Hello fab4fan,

You must know my cousin from Iowa who met Paul McCartney a few years ago.

They take any denomination you want to exchange...except the ones with a picture of Condosleaza Rice. Just make sure you ask what they charge for the exchange and the rate you receive. The one at the corner of Peel and Ste. Catherine is usually very good.

Regards,

Korbel

Being Canadian, I've never used the money exchange places but to be on the safe side, I would recommend that you try to bring as many US $20's as possible and as few US $50's and US $100's as possible. I doubt that you will have problems with US $50's and US $100's but you can never be too sure.

It is like $50's and $100's in Canada nowadays. Lot's a places (stores & restaurants) will not touch Canadian $50's and Canadian $100's and have signs indicating this. They don't want to be stuck with a bad bill which empties their cash register of good bills.

They all accept $100 US bills, but they may or may not have Canadian $100 bills to give you in return. You may have to accept $50 or $20 denominations at certain locations.

Go to the Calforex at the corner of Peel and St. Catherine, they have heavy tourist traffic there and you will have no problems as lots of money is coming in and going out.

I have changed thousands and thousands of dollars at these places over the years, I always bring $100 US bills, and nobody has ever refused them. Ben is good people. Ben is da man!

I second Beav's recommendation. I have never had a problem there, and the transaction fee is very low and reasonable (forgot the rate, sorry).

They will accept any legal tender but will surcharge 1% if too many $20's. Change your money into mostly $20's and to save room in your wallet ask for a few $100's and $50's which you can use for "evening activities".

Well I guess my follow up question would be, will the agencies and escorts accept $50 and $100 Canadian bills?

Yes. I think they prefer bigger bills because the counting process is easier and at the end of the night the SP wants to know how much she made, quickly. I also prefer bringing bigger bills both to the money exchange places and on dates for the same reason. The sight of a guy fumbling around with a bunch of $10 and $20 bills is not likely to inspire a good start to any such transaction.

Hmm... I've changed quite a bit of US money to Canadian and the place I usually go, they give me a bit of a better rate if there is more $100 bills, if not ALL $100 bills. These money will be easier for them to keep/resell. The place I go to, they tell me they resell a nice bit of their money to the Jewish ppl that wish to buy $100s and keep them on the side.

Not sure if they're still buying the $100 US since it's been dropping so much.. but yeah, the more $100's I have, the better rate I get. But then again, this might only affect it if you're changing a lump sum and not just a few hundred dollars.

For a place that will give you a good exchange rate and likely no transaction fee is Apex Forex on St-Laurent (corner of Ste-Catherine), behind the Belle Province fast food joint.

I only have 2 problems with the Apex Forex:

1. It is in a not-so-good neighborhood (compared to the Califorex on Ste-Catherine and Peel)
2. It is too close to Cleo's. I would be too tempted to go there afterwards, lol.
