Anyone familiar with Gary Kurtz and mentalism?

    Hi,

I happen to have seen one of Gary Kurtz's shows a few years back, and the mentalist left me kinda speechless, albeit a bit skeptical, with all his mind-reading abilities. One thing I found rather suspicious, though, was that upon entering the theatre hall, I immediately noticed there were people on stage that had already been chosen as participants of the show. Dunno how they got chosen, when and by whom?? These participants would later during the show be asked by Kurtz to do various things with the end result always being the demonstration of Kurtz's mind-reading abilities. In the second part of the show, however, Kurtz selected, seemingly at random, participants from members of the audience, with ultimately the same wowing effects. Has anybody else seen Kurtz perform? Do you think mentalism, or mind reading, realy exist? Do you have any idea how they do it? Here are a few links:

Interesting, LeGuy. Actually, I wouldn't be at all surprised if Kurtz wears an earpiece during his show while one of his helpers relays the info! Damn can I be gullible sometimes !

Below is an interesting passage i found in Wikipedia on ''mentalism'':

''As supernatural powers fall from favour, many contemporary performers choose to attribute their results to other skills: the ability to read body language or to manipulate the subject subliminally through psychological suggestion, for example. In the trade this is known as ''working clean.''

    The Amazing Kreskin

Kreskin is known as one of the best Mentalist's ever and he has often said it is all a show of trickery.

I've seen him perform, and he's really good. I'm planning to see him again in 2007. I'd recommend his show to anyone.

There is absolutely no good (ie reliable) evidence for any of this stuff (which is a nice way of saying that it's usually all done by very skillful people employing various tricks).

If you're interested in that kind of stuff (ESP, UFOs, unexplained phenomena, etc.), I'd recommend that you subscribe or read a few issues of this magazine: http://www.csicop.org/si/
