Best to worst

1) The bank (i.e. Canadian ATM) or your credit card
2) The casino
3) Travelex, currency exchange places in the mall, airport, etc.
4) Local merchants

Thanks guys. EB - your criticism is correct. I started by searching on 'exchange', got two pages into a ten page list with no hits and got lazy.

always use atm

I always use the ATM, you get up to the minute exchange rates and usually only a $1 - $2 fee. don't bring a bunch of US cash into the country. Conversly don't take much home. I try to hit the airport with about $5.00 for starbucks on the way to the gate.

If anybody leave Canada with more that $5, I can help you by sending you my postal address. I'll be happy to take your extra cash!

ATM and credit card are easiest and more cost-effective. Banks take too long and ask too many question. Nothing like "what will you do with the money?" but name, address, IDs...

I also use ATM, especially Scotiabank ones, because I don't have to pay transaction fee with BAC debit card. Since 2003, I don't mind coming back home to NYC with few hundred C$ due direction of exchange rate between C$ and US$.
