This always confused me.
If we here in Montreal have have another six week of winter,
meaning springtime weather, starts mid-March;
then we are having an early spring!

Punxsutawney Phil did not see his shadow yesterday morning, which, according to German folklore, means we can expect an early spring instead of six more weeks of winter.

Climatologists will tell you that we can expect many early springs from now on. As for groundhog day, every day seems like groundhog day to me.:D

The "groundhog" theory only works in more southern latitudes.

Up north you would need to use a different animal as a frame of reference.

For those of you in the Great White North you would have to pick a native species ... say like the "Canadian Beaver". :D
