Whats wrong with the Habs? - now 10th and out of a playoff spot

Overrated team. Mind you I think all hockey players are overrated and overpaid. Curling, that's the sport for ice... or Jack Daniel's drinking...

Habs sinking .... and sinking ....

All this is very sad. This team was in 4th place in the conference just before Christmas and now .... slipping to 10th and who knows where next !! !!

I don't see them making the playoffs .... so they may be better off selling a few key players and building for the future.

Now that Huet is injured for the rest of the season, should we go and see if Colorado will give us Theodore back?

Doc sums it all up perfectly in post # 3. (The only thing wrong is referring to Craig Rivet as an attractive commodity. He may be a decent guy but as a pro hockey player his skills are negligible and diminishing.)

Face reality Habs fans: your team does not have talent and has not had talent for many many years. This does not make them bad people and it does not mean you should abandon them: it's always nice to root for the underdog and dreams can be enjoyable. I'm sure as hell glad they're not my team (and never were) but for those of you who like them, good for you - keep dreaming the dream.

Guys .... I am telling you, let's get Jose Theodore back in a Montreal Canadiens uniform !! At some point Colorado will have to buy out the rest of his $6 million a year contact and release him. Then, he comes back to Montreal ... on a minimum wage deal and BOOM ... he'll be back on top of the league in goaltending.

Doc, Quebec born players don't want to play here.They don't want the pressure from the media and they don't want to have to deal with the taxes.

As far as Theo is concerned...if he comes back to Mtl it will be to work as a squeegie kid on Ste-Catherine st.

Anyway with Halak and Price comming its not time to get back that guy... don't forget Yann Danis also who shown nice things in past. We need serious player not goalies.

One of Gainey's better decisions in recent memory has been dumping Theodore. Theo is a total loser. Colorado gave him the starter job on a silver platter and look who's the starter there now. It ain't Theo. Don't count on Theo putting on a Habs uniform again.

As for his blue line, Gainey will have a tough decision to make for next season as Souray, Rivet and Markov will all be free agents. Souray and Markov should be keepers IMO. But it might be tough to hang on to Souray with the season he's having and if he decides he wants to be closer to his daughter on the West Coast.

There are eight days before the trading deadline. Bob, I know you're having a tough year personally, but we need some offensive firepower upfront for the playoffs push. Can you make that happen?

Maybe Theo is the answer, Pablo. He's scored more often than the Habs forwards this year.

What's wrong with the Canadiens is they don't have any players. The NHL is a player's league and if you don't have the talent, it will show in the standings.

I know someone who is a Canadiens fan who told me that Saiku Koivu and Alexi Kovalev are Hall of Famers. This is a joke. Those two guys are good players but there is no hall of fame talent on this team.

Look at the Penguins. I warned you guys about the talent the Penguins have, young and amazing talent, and you laughed at me and said they were a longshot for the playoffs. Well look at the standings and where the Penguins are and where the Habs are.

One reason for the difference my friends: TALENT.

Gainey got a 5 year mandate to turn the habs into a contender, while at the same time maintaining a competitive team that generates playoff revenu.
The habs are well on the way along that path with young guns such as Higgins, Latendress, Komisarek, Plekanec and Ryder and great prospects such as Grabovsky, Kositstyn brothers, Chipchura, Price, Emelin, Valentenko, Halak etc. No doubt in my mind that the Habs will be a contender within 2 to 3 years.

As for the Pittsburg Penguins... it's easy to build a great team when you have been in the cellar for 5 years. Those first picks overall, year after year, will do that for a team.

Gainey is a smart, patient man who will lead this franchise to glory again.

Some poor misguided soul thinks Koivu and Kovalev will be in the Hall of Fame - for what? Greatest number of injuries? Most miscellaneous illnesses? Top five thousand Finnish players in the NHL (Koivu)? Least use of natural talent (Kovalev)?

I think the time may have come to cancel any parade plans this year. Sorry to disappoint Picasso and the other true believers but your dream isn't going to come true. By the way, it probably won't come true in your lifetime, but keep the faith: one day your grandchildren may see the Habs hoist the Cup again.

I hate the Leafs! I am a Habs fan but this year, I refuse to watch them. They need a goal scorer that can consistently put the puck in the net.
