Hello all,

Where do I go for a haircut in downtown Montreal ?

I paid $10 here in the US, how much does it cost in Mtl ?

One presidentail candidate here in the US used campain fund to pay for a 400 dollars haircut.

What is the difference ?

Do they use Viagra to clean his hair for a 400 dollars for it to cost that much ?:p

If looking like a muskrat is acceptable to you, then a $10 haircut might suit your needs. Other than that a haircut for men, including hair wash (and little niceties that are YMMV :D ) would cost you between CA$35 and CA$40 in a downtown Montreal hair salon (straightener, coloration and misc. capillary follies are extra). Paying a great deal more than this would be superfluous.

Try 50$ in an average salon. It depends on your hairstyle. If you only need them to use a clipper then you can find a 10$ place. Or for that purpuse I can land you my own clipper and it will be free!

My haircut appointment is in an hour! I go to Coupe Bizarre on St. Laurent and Pine which is on the unprofessional/hippy side and even they charge 50$ for men and women.

Yesterday I was walking past a place that charged 13$ for women and 12$ for men (it was a special!). I think it was on Ontario street around Berri region. If you are lucky you can get a great haircut and even seduce one of the street walkers on your way back!

I pay $14 for a cut only / no wash on the low side and $40 ( on the high side) and I ask them not to wash my hair. After a hair cut I usualy run home screaming with my hands flailing over my head, and I throw a bottle of Nizoral on my head to kill the COOTIES that were left on the barber shop combs and scissors from the other clients.
Years ago I got a nudie hair cut for $24, the hair cut was fine. There was a sign on the wall asking the patrons not to jerk off under the hair cut shawl.

yes -- for $10 you have 2 options... a buzz cut or a bowl cut. For a real haircut, try Tonic on St. Laurent. between Sherbrooke and Pine.

You get a 15 minute neck/head massage.. I'm talking about the big head -- don't get any ideas :) before your wash and cut. I have to say, the eye candy in this place is fantastic. Between the stylists and the female customers, it can be hard to keep you head still (tip: move your eyeballs, not your head to see better without messing up your haircut)... It will run you anywhere from $35 - $55 (plus tax) depending on who cuts your hair.

Any place in Montreal that will clean shave your head with a razor? I know some places don't like to do this for health reasons but if a barber is competent and confident he should not be worried about cutting you. Also, if they clean shave the neck what is the problem with doing the whole head?

I go to a salon called Mario & Micheline on Nun's Island. I've been getting my hair cut there longer than I can remember. Wash and cut goes for $20. No rush and always a great job. EB, I'm pretty sure you would have no trouble having your head shaved there. I'm due for a trim and I'll ask for you next time I'm there.

Salons..

Elizabeth, of course you can ask them to do whatever hairstyle you desire. They are very open minded - you can have it very classic, retro or modern trendy.. I'm sure you will look sexy and feminine!

New York, if you don't mind small family owned places there are plenty of them. I just stumbled across one for 10$ cut, 14$ with shampoo, "Salon Michael" on 69 Mount Royal West (514 844-4111). The owners, a couple, seemed very friendly. They said "we will do any style".. and they speak English!

Have a good hairday!

Not exactly located downtown but if you want a special haircut, you can drive off the island (to Dorion or Laval) for one of the clip/strip places where the hairdressers are in lingerie or semi-nude when they cut your hair. I've never tried it but I hear that they give a fairly decent haircut. ;)

I used to go get my hair cut at a barber shop in the underground shopping centre where La Cite Apartments is, near the corners of Avenue du Parc and Prince Arthur. I also got an old-fashioned shave there too. Nice and close, and no blood! Wish I could remember the name. I used to shop there all the time when the Renaissance Montreal was open (before McGill bought the property)

Seeing that people pay $40-$50, I'm glad that I pay only about $15 and get a good hair cut at Salon Fantasim in Verdun near Wellington and Hickson. I'm lucky because all I need is to cut my hair at a medium leanth and then I gell it back and look like a typical gino. Ya I have that Italian/Greek look and sometimes pass for Latino.

If you are talking about electric razors, in Montréal they can use it. If you are talking about a manual razor with a blade, it is against the law in the province of Québec to use anything else than a disposable razor.

Docprostate,

I was talking about a long manual straight edge razor blade. In Connecticut, barbers will use it to trim your neck but they will not use it to shave the entire head. I am actually not sure of the laws or regulations involved. I just know based on past experience that they will use the blade to trim the neck so that the hairline is square, but they will refuse to shave the entire head with it. Which I always thought to be a bit strange.

Guy Lafleur blew it - he would have had the Mark Messier look before the Moose if he had not decided to invest in a weave job.
