How has the downtown traffic been ? I am still wondering whether I should cancel my trip..I do not want to sit in traffic all vacation..

Is there street parking or lot parking available..or has it disappeared with all the extra cars coming into downtown ?

Are the ladies showing up very late for their appointments due to traffic ??

Any info would be appreciated..

Best Regards

If only I knew...
I was in Montreal Wednesday-Thursday and seen no difference. Only thing is I avoided big traffic hours but daytime and evening, no problems with driving or parking, at least nothing worst than usual.

I nearly got hit by a car - 3 times

First time, I am crossing the street (legally) in front of a car waiting to enter traffic - Moron #1 swerves around the first car screeching to a halt 2 inches from me... I don't think his intention was to stop, but I screamed when I saw him coming.

Moron #2 - crossing on a cross light (you know the one where the arrow says cars can go STRAIGHT and pedestrians have their 10 seconds to cross the street?), moron, turns, clipping the back of my heel.

The 3rd one might always be a Moron, taxi driver. Serves out of traffic into oncoming traffic to turn down a side street where I am crossing one way and another guy is crossing towards me. The idiot splits right down the middle (mind you, I saw him coming and stopped walking - otherwise I would have been crushed)...

Be careful out there. Drivers are normally stupid idiots in this city, it has only gotten worse!

I am thinking of starting a project and taking pictures of all the traffic offenses I see, standing on a corner, taking picture after picture, it is dangerous and insane the way people drive!

Where I belong.
You forgot moron number 4. I was riding on the bike path on Christophe-Colomb on Wednesday, crossing Jean-Talon with the light. Moron number 4 goes flying through a red-light, honking his horn, and nearly hauling my sorry ass halfway across the east end. The bastard missed me by about a foot.

Nope, I faired the bike thing yesterday, and all I can say is, if it isn't cars in the streets it is people walking on the bike path

For me, it takes me longer to get to/from work because of the strike when I drive.

I also deal with some geniuses while I'm driving. This happened before the strike and also happened during the strike but with my last point about pedestrian cross-lights, it happens more frequently since there are more pedestrians walking around.

Once there was an older person (I'm sure he was in his 50's or 60's) riding his bike wearing headphones going in the flow of traffic. It was a small 2 way street and I was going in the same direction as him. Since it was a 2 way small street, I was in the middle of the street (to give him some room) and there was no cars coming in the opposite direction. As I was getting close to him and trying to pass him for some reason he moved in front of my car (without signaling or looking back). Luckily I braked. I also honked my horn which startled him since he was wearing his headphones.

I also almost hit a pedestrian crossing in the middle of the sidewalk. I was stopped because of the light and I was going to make a right turn at the curb so I was at the right-most lane of a 2 lane street. My right turn signal was on while I was at a complete stop waiting for the light to change. A pedestrian just decides to cross the street right at the time that my light changed to green and since I was at the rightmost lane, her stepping off the sidewalk brought her to the front right corner of my car just as I released my foot from the brake. Luckily her boyfriend grabbed her and pulled her back onto the sidewalk just as I braked again.

Then, there are the pedestrians that don't respect the pedestrian cross-lights and walk when the light is green and the pedestrian cross-light shows a red hand. When this happens, it is almost impossible to make a turn since the pedestrians keep crossing the street even though the pedestrian light changes from the walking person to the red hand just because the green light is there (but the green light is for the cars whenever there are pedestrian cross-lights). This happens very often downtown where you can't turn because pedestrians just keep crossing the street because of the green light even though the red hand is on the pedestrian cross-light. The green light then changes to red and you aren't allowed to go. After that, the red light changes to green and the pedestrian cross-light goes back so pedestrians start to cross and you can't turn. The pedestrian cross-light then changes from the walking person to the red hand while the light is still green and pedestrians continue to cross the street. The green light then changes to red and the same cycle repeats itself.

And the fun all pedestrians have by standing in the street instead of the sidewalk, while waiting for the light to change, making it difficult to turn right...

The stupid taxi drivers who stop anywhere in order to let peoples in or out, jamming traffic...

Those same stupid taxi drivers who decide at the last minute to turn left when they are in the rightmost of 3 lanes, in order to get one more fare...

Bike delivery guys who don't care about laws and squeeze in between cars, take one way the wrong way, drive full speed on sidewalks, don't stop at traffic lights or stop signs...

Cars and truck who intentionally block intersections so THEY don't waste 2 minutes at the red light, while they stop peoples who had no delays otherwise...

Cars and trucks who block pedestrian crossing lanes...

Lots and lots more!

What about the cars/trucks that double-park beside your car so that the person can run into the bank or store or where-ever for a "few seconds/minutes" making it impossible for you to drive out since your car is blocked in.

Then when you almost hit them, they get upset and give you the finger or try to kick/hit your car.
