Current predictions are that the rate will be close to 1:1 by the end of the year.

If this happens and the rates the SPs charge doesn't sink with it, business from US customers will drop as we will all stay home and try to make do with what we have.

Reminds me that I need to call my local provider and make sure I give her some business.

Even with the massive devaluation of the US dollar -- Montreal SPs are still the best deal around on price alone. In terms of value (ie: services available) Vs. price, then --- still, by far, the best deal around compared to all other US or Canadian options.

I feel bad for the 49% of americans who voted for Al Gore in 2000, and Kerry in 2004... If either of those guys had been elected the dollar would still be worth something. Bush is printing money so fast, to pay for all his waste, that I bet the Canadian dollar will surpass the US dollar within 12 months.

Your theory that Americans will stop coming is probably only true to a small extent. Those who could barely afford it before will be pinched, but for most hobbyists this gradual price "increase" might slow them down a little, but won't stop them. Gas was $1/gallon a few years back and now it's three times more ($3/gallon) -- I didn't notice any americans who stopped driving :)

BD

PS: In six months from now all canadians should start buying up US stocks. The US dollar will go back up at least 10-15 points by 2009 when the democrats take over, pull out of Iraq and clean up the corruption (at least a little bit) in the white house.

That prediction dates back to fall 2006. That's why I've been buying US currencies "spot" instead of buying forward contracts.

The theory that a strong Canadian dollar keeps US tourists away does not hold from a historic perspective. Under the old gold standard the Canadian dollar was worth more than the US dollar - well into the early 1970's. Us tourists flocked to Montreal. Evidenced by Expo 67 and the steady stream of Americans who enjoyed the nightlife from the post WWII era onwards.

Maybe Mike from classless X is the trend setter for the rest of the agencies:)

Has anyone noticed that Mike only posts in the Merb advertisors (classless X safety zone) section? Nobody can posts comments on how his agency sucks in this section...

Now really??????????

You pay $180.00 USD for quality 1 hr GFE services in Atlanta, or New York, or Boston, or LA, or Chicago, really????

If you do you are one lucky bastard and we should all move to your current city, am in San Diego and let me tell you that for less than $300.00 USD an hour you ain't getting but the most rudementary of treatments, if at all.

I have done these in almost all majors cities in North America, I still (even at parity) can not see how you ca beat the pricing in MTL and that if they all charge $180.00 an hour. According to several people you can get really good service for even less ($120.00 USD). In Tampa $100.00 will get you a lap dance in one of those lingere shops, that is it!

Now you have to imagine living in San Diego and finding airfare to Montreal for around $400 bucks or more. Do you spend that now in order to pay $180 per hour? Or do you go to L.A. and spend say $250?

Or if your a true hobbiest...do you pay the $400 to fly to Montreal and pay for escorts you haven't seen except for pictures...or do you pay $450 to fly to Germany and visit fkk clubs and meet the girls and pay $65 for a half hour or $100 for an hour?

Its all a matter of numbers in the end.

You are rigth in a way, for $500.00 I can get a ticket to Prague and then get a full nigth for $300.00 or yet better fly to the Philipines for $800.00 and get it for less than $100.00 a night.

My point being that even at parity, the MTL hobby scene is very competitive, specially if you look at the quality of girls and services and to pretend that parity will be the disapereance of the US client is just not true.

No, but you can always post regarding your negative experiences in the "Outcall" section.

If only I knew...
I love the current exchange rate! I buy a lot on Ebay and it's just great!

No matter what way it goes, it will always make some peoples happy and others unhappy, that's the way!

Will this drive US visitors away? I don't think so.

Very true. But the truly savvy hobbyist will also do some research and take advantage of the value proposition offered by the local talent. Since you're in San Diego, if you're into Asian chicks, I'd suggest you drive up to LA and check out some of the AMPs there and do some hot Korean chicks for $150-$180 per hour. Or if you're feeling adventurous and want even more pussy for your dollars, cross the border and go into Tijuana to Adelita's or Chicago bars for some chica loving.

TJs is a stop I hit from time to time and although the pricing can not be beat, what you get is one type of girl (Mexican - Latino) not that am complaning belive me, there are some real hotties, but from time to time the mind strays into other flavours.

Now as for LA, I belive it to be overrated, you can get lucky, but it is a crap shoot, I have had good expiriences and bad ones, and belive me you do not want to spent 2 hours from El Toro to Downtown LA for crappy sex.

Yes there are other stops in the world, I belive Eastern Europe is the best, but when it comes to North America, specially if you are already in the East Coast (work or pleasure) MTL is to me the destination to go.

Canadian/US dollars at par this morning

OTTAWA -- The Canadian dollar hit parity with the U.S. dollar in early trading Tuesday, as investors anticipated higher domestic interest rates.

After briefly matching the U.S. currency, the loonie was trading at about 99.95 cents US.

Michael Gregor of BMO Capital Markets wrote in a morning note that the Reserve Bank of Australia hiked rates 25 basis points Tuesday to 4.25 per cent, which sparked "speculation that the Bank of Canada will soon be following suit."

The dollar picked up steam from last week, when it began the trading week at 97 cents US, with oil prices above $85 US and copper at 20-month highs, manufacturing data looking solid and better-than-expected Canadian GDP growth in January. Gold and copper were trading slightly lower before the bell Tuesday and oil was up eight cents to $86.70 US a barrel.

The commodities boom helped bring the Canadian dollar to parity with the U.S. dollar in September 2007 for the first time since 1976. It continued to fluctuate above and below equality with the U.S. dollar right up until the summer of 2008.

Then the global economic crisis hit, taking down commodity prices, stock markets and the Canadian dollar with it.

Since going as low as the mid-70-cent US range in March 2009, the loonie has steadily climbed back to a level playing field with the U.S. dollar.

Well that's nice, except that the facts maintained by the Montreal Tourism Bureau, and a dozen other Canadian agencies say different. Tourism is very much impacted by the exchange rate, price of gas, etcetera.

I remember as if yesterday it was in 2007 when $1.00 cd could buy $1.10 US, I thought a lot buy U.S. dollars at this moment, but I didn't do that, so I kept still miss it today.

I think now is the time, because the Canadian dollar does not equal stayed very long time with the american dollar before it will go down its place initial $1.00CD = $0.80 US. So I think it's very interesting investment, Knowing the right time to buy is very important. Of course, I could not ask you when would be a good moment to do it, because you are not all experts on economics, you are here rather the experts of greek, cim or other :p

Money at par is good for us canadians, we can shop/travel at a reasonable rate in the states. It's bad for the americans, as they were used to getting more for their money. However Montreal is a big draw for how good the adult entertainment is and I can't see that much of an impact unless their dollar falls well below ours.

Actually, it isn't good, because our economy relies on manufacturing. While it may be temporarily good for some, it will have a deeper negative impact across many sectors.
