Best Chinese buffet?

I forgot what the place is called, but there is one near the Sheraton on Rue Stanley.

That's the only Chinese buffet in Montreal that I know of, and I enjoyed the meals that I had there.

The price was very good as well. While it did not have as many items as other Chinese buffets that I've been to in Toronto and the US, it did have some interesting items that I've not seen anywhere else.

I get the impression that Montreal, overall, is not too fond of buffets, preferring quality over quantity. I suppose that's good for Montreal, since it keeps people in shape. If you're really into buffets, the US is the ticket, especially Vegas.

Ruby Rouge

Ruby Rouge, the dim sum specialists on 1008 Clark, now have a dim sum "mini buffet". It's to your left as you go through the main entrance to the dining room. It's a new feature because they never had it in past years when I went there. They have a very good selection of both dim sum and, in particular, desserts and pastries. I think it gives RR an edge over other Montreal dim sum restaurants because if you get impatient waiting for the next cart to come out of the kitchen, you can simply walk over to the mini-buffet. The only downside is that there is no predictability as to what will be offered, and you may have to wait for certain favorite dishes to come out of the kitchen. However, this is a busy restaurant and the food moves quickly, thus everything is pretty fresh.

Go to "zen" at the Omni hotel on Sherbrooke... It's not a buffet, but each person pays one fixed price (about $35) and you get unlimited menu items. So it's a virtual buffet -- but everything is made to order and you don't have to leave your seat... The food is very high quality. Since you get a full plate of each item you order, it's best to go to this place with a group of four or more so that you can try a lot of dishes without a lot of waste....

Prices please.

I consider it cheap if you pay $14.95 and get shrimps and other sea foods.
There are other places that offer good value for $9.99 but you do not get shrimps.
It has been a long time but I use to go to the Buffet madarin in langellier and a place that is near the Home depot in Laval near the highway 15. They use to be realy good, can anyone tell me if they are still there and still offer a good value?

La Perle also has a 'tasting menu' in the evening that allows you to try anything and everything on the menu. They serve smaller portions of everything you order but there is no limit on how many times you can order the same dish. The quality of the food is quite good and the price is reasonable, $24.95 per person...$26.95 on Saturdays. Website is here:

http://www.laperle.pj.ca/english/index.htm

PS: This is the first time I've every seen a '.pj.ca' web address. Anyone know what it means?

Mandarin is still in the mall with The Wal-Mart on Langelier. Overall above average value.

There is a place called Buffet Maison Jade in Boucherville, not far from my office, and they have a good quality buffet that has salmon, which I always stuff myself on, at lunch time and other seafood including shrimp in the evening. I believe the evening price is $14.95. The price includes unlimited soft drinks. Good value, I just wish they had hot and sour soup.
It's very easy to get to, just take the first Boucherville exit out of the Lafontaine tunnel and it's right there. Lots of other chain restos in the area, the typical Scores, Madisons (not bad), East Side Mario's and such.

I don't know the name but I used to go to a Chinese buffet that was in Lasalle right near the Toys 'R' Us across from Carrefour Angrignon which I liked. I also used to go to a Chinese buffet in Brossard on Tachereau. I think that it was near the Guzzo movie theatre there. I'm not 100% sure but I believe that both buffets have the same name. They also serve sushi (which is pretty good for a buffet place).

During the evenings, I used to go to a Chinese restaurant near Fairview Pointe-Claire (1 or 2 blocks away). I think that it was called "Crystal Palace". It was adjacent to a sex/lingerie store in a parking mall. They used to have what is termed a "taster's buffet". I'm not sure if they still have this. The idea of this is that you would order from a menu (2 items max) and waiters or waitresses would bring it out for you. After finishing these 2 items, you could ask for something else. You do this until you are full.

Thanks for the tip, the only buffet I have been to in Montreal is the one on La Gauchetiere, just below the Hilton Bonnaventure, but I cant remember the name, normal but good buffet, not expensive.

I will go check that Omni hotel buffet soon I think

I beleive the place in LaSalle is called Fu Lams or something like that.

No, I think Fu Lams is in Saint-Laurent near the Spheretech Guzzo movie theatre. I seem to rememeber that the place in Lasalle has "Asia" or "Asian" in the name. However, I haven't been there in over 4 years.

This is the one I like. Does anyone know the name or can anyone confirm if they have other locations?

Buffet Chinois Fu Lam

Cheap price for decent and fresh food. Grill bar. One of my favorite.

Buffet Chinois Fu Lam
1600, boul. Le Corbusier
Chomedey
LAVAL H7S 1Y9
Tél. 450.682.6668
< 15$

I don't recommend the Buffet Fu-Lam at Centre Laval (1600 Corbusier)
Lesser choices of food compared to the one at Cote-Vertu.
---
Jardin De Jade Poon Kai
57, rue de la Gauchetière O coin Clark
Montréal, Québec H2Z 1C2
Quartier Chinois
Tél.: 514.861.4941
< 15$
Jardin de Jade has traditional dishes (rosted chiken/pork)
and traditional dessert. They have their own bakery. But,
sushi suck big time compared to Fu Lam at Cote-Vertu.

Buffet Maison Kirin

My currently favorite one when I'm in Laval. They
have lesser customers because they recently raise
their price by 1.00$. There is also Vicky's but its italian.
Nice salad and grill bar. I love deep fried crispy spinach.
Light, crispy, sweet... So goood. :p

For other restaurants, i usually consult this website
it has everything I need (price and location):
