I will be there in a few weeks and have a few questions please.

Is tourism big in Montreal? Are their alot of toursits on the street? Will I have any problem with customs telling them Im hear for no other reason then to see Mtl?

What are some common destinations tourist must see when in Mtl?

I am also very interested in finding buildings in the downtown Mtl area, I guess you call it the island, that have observation deck and maybe a bar/restaurant?

I have read about the Montreal Tower and I will probably go there but I was looking for a similar type of place that would be in the city. I believe the Montreal Tower is far away for downtown.

Anyways thank you for entertaining my inquiries. Im looking forward to this visit provided customs doesnt sweat the true reason for my trip out of me.

There are many tourists in Montreal, it is not unusual to be going there for that at all. I like to walk up and down St.Catherine street, and in old Montreal. You can also check out the old Olympic venues, and Expo 67 venues. And some of the best swinger clubs in North America.

Tourism is mainly big for the big events:
-F1 Grand prix race (June)
-Jazz Festival (End of July)
In August, it's not as busy as in June/July since you don't have
big events that attract lot of tourism, and yet you can see a lot of tourists
around the city during this period.

-The old harbour (Vieux Port) is a must for touristic attraction
-Crescent Street is small but enjoy one of it' s terraces (particularly Winston Churchill's and Thursdays. They are part of Mtl classic downtown's spots)
After that, walk a while on Ste Catherine btween Crescent and Mc Gill College (not a long walk but at least, you've got to enjoy the biggest part of downtown Mtl).
-Another walk on St Denis between St Catherine and Mt Royal is recommended. While you are there, stop by Prince Arthur (at the level of St Laurent) and enjoy whatever terrace you find there (Oh...in that area, I will recommend you stop at the Shed Cafe, a classic of Mtl. It's on St Laurent, not far from Prince Arthur).
-If like me, you like all types of old architectures (Gothic, baroque, romanesque), enjoy the myriad of great churches that Montreal have:
**Notre-Dame Basilica in the Vieux Port is a must-see
**Marie-Reine-du-Monde (Rene Levesque, Corner Metcalfe)..and while you are there, visit the Sunlife Building on Metcalfe (The queen used to hide her treasures in that building. Play attention at the escalator's doors...simply beautifully made). Not far from there, enjoy the beautiful architecture of the Bonaventure Train Station.
For the night life, St-Laurent street (corner Prince Arthur) + Crescent Street will have a lot to offer. If you want a very great genuine and friendly local atmosphere, I will recommend le petit Medley on 6206 St-Hubert (514) 271-7887 (lil bit far from hot spots like Le plateau and downtown Mtl).

1, Place Ville Marie is what you should look for
(http://www.placevillemarie.com/).
It has a restaurant at it's very top (Restaurant 737 - Awesome panoramic view of the City).
Just don't expect too much from the cuisine of that restaurant. Still, it's a chic and beautiful restaurant with a breath-taking view of the city.

Funny how no one mentions the outstanding strip clubs. For those that aren't in the hobby, they are probably pretty high up on the list. Happens when you realize your money is spent five times better with an SP.
